Registered Nurse Pre-Op/PACU

Shift Availability 5 days per week, 8 hours per shift OR 4 days per week, 10 hours per shift Role Overview Provides nursing care to the surgical patient, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patients in the immediate post‑anesthetic period. Delivers PACU/Recovery nursing care to patients in the facility while maintaining clinical, communication, and personal knowledge and skills required to deliver safe and effective patient care. Responsibilities Demonstrate competency in all procedures within the scope of practice, including age‑appropriate assessment, intervention, and communication. Infant (0‑1 year) Pediatric (2‑12 years) Adolescent (13‑17 years) Adult (18‑69 years) Geriatric (70+ years) Utilize the nursing process for all patient care activities, completing activities per established policy, procedure, and protocol. Communicate accurate and timely information regarding patients and their care to significant others and team members. Record pertinent information clearly, accurately, and in a timely manner. Demonstrate positive interpersonal relationships with patients, significant others, and co‑workers. Assess patient health status by collecting data via patient interview, physical assessment, documentation review, and consultation with peri‑operative team members. Organize a plan of care that incorporates physician‑prescribed treatments, nursing assignments, and diagnostic data in a prioritized, timely, and integrated manner. Act as Admission/Discharge RN by completing admission chart reviews, necessary lab work, IV initiation, and discharge preparation, ensuring patients and significant others understand post‑op care and can manage ongoing health needs. Implement orders for post‑anesthesia care, standing critical‑care emergencies, and monitor critical medications per policy. Adjust patient care plans to meet evolving outcomes. Document patient care in an eligible manner, following form guidelines, protocol, and reflecting patient condition. Restock area supplies and perform cleaning functions for the unit. Participate in conferences, committee meetings, and educational programs as needed. Obtain appropriate patient health history and participate in patient‑safety practices. Provide clinical leadership: demonstrate judgment, advocate for patient needs, mentor new staff, communicate effectively, and maintain a safe environment. Explain procedures and treatments to patients to gain cooperation and reduce apprehension. Administer prescribed medications per approved nursing technique and prepare equipment for physician use. Monitor vital signs and other indicators to detect deviations from normal. Respond to life‑saving situations per nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol. Maintain records of nursing history, physical assessment, patient education, and medication logs. Participate in facility quality improvement activities. Requirements Understanding and commitment to the organization’s mission, values, and philosophy. Current RN license. Awareness of changing nursing trends and ability to adapt. Knowledge and skills to provide patient care appropriate to location and population. Ability to function effectively in stressful situations. Verbal and written communication skills. Willingness to adjust schedule (trade or work extra) to meet facility needs. BLS certification within 6 months of hire. Ability to work under supervision and oversee others.
