Travel Respiratory Therapist Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,670–$1,790
• Assignment Type: 13-week travel respiratory therapy contract
• Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
• Start Date: November 9, 2026
• End Date: February 8, 2027
• Shift: Night shift, 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
• Schedule: Three 12-hour shifts per week; 36 or 48 hours may be available based on department needs
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Must work two of the three winter holidays
• Orientation: 16 hours
• Patient Population: Adult and geriatric patients
• Documentation: Epic experience required
• Float: Occasional floating between respiratory therapy sections within scope of practice

Registered Respiratory Therapist Job Requirements

• At least 4 years of respiratory therapy experience required; candidates with 2 or more years may be considered
• Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential
• Current BLS certification
• Active Virginia respiratory care license required by the start date; pending licenses may be considered if a temporary license can be obtained before the assignment begins
• Level II trauma experience required
• Level I trauma experience preferred
• Advanced Critical Care Specialist (ACCS) certification preferred
• ACLS certification preferred
• Epic electronic health record (EHR) charting experience required
• Strong communication, critical-thinking, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills

Hospital Respiratory Therapy Responsibilities

• Provide respiratory care for adult and geriatric patients across hospital departments
• Assess patients and deliver treatments including aerosol therapy, oxygen therapy, airway clearance, and ventilatory support
• Manage and troubleshoot mechanical ventilation, including IMV, SIMV, CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, T-piece, and tracheostomy collar applications
• Assist with intubation and extubation and provide care for endotracheal tubes and tracheostomies
• Perform and interpret arterial blood gas testing and support clinical decision-making
• Assist with emergency, critical-care, surgical, neurological, and medical respiratory needs
• Support bronchoscopy, pulmonary hygiene, suctioning, chest physiotherapy, and other respiratory procedures
• Collaborate proactively with nurses, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in Epic
• Float between respiratory therapy sections as needed while maintaining safe, high-quality patient care
