Wastewater Treatment Process Engineer

What You Will Do The GFT Water team is looking for a Wastewater Treatment Process Engineer. This role follows a hybrid work model requiring regular attendance at one of our many offices. Responsibilities Lead and support the design and evaluation of wastewater treatment processes, including biological nutrient removal, sludge handling, and filtration. Conduct site visits and investigations; analyze influent characteristics, facility design, and operating data to assess performance and recommend improvements. Plan and execute bench, pilot, and full-scale studies; assess results and prepare reports. Act as technical specialist on conventional and advanced treatment, covering physical/chemical primary treatment, activated sludge, BNR, fixed-film, MBR, tertiary filtration, wet‑weather treatment, and disinfection. Requirements BS in Civil, Environmental, Chemical Engineering (MS preferred). Professional Engineer licensed (PE) or ability to obtain in 6–12 months. 4+ years of experience in wastewater treatment discipline, with planning and/or process evaluation. Expertise in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Preferred: 3+ years leading process design for wastewater projects with full responsibility for budget, schedule, contracts, client service, and quality. Experience with preliminary treatment, primary treatment, BNR, disinfection, hydraulics, solids processing, and handling. Track record of leading plant facilities projects and willingness to take on new challenges. Preferred Experience with BioWin, GPS‑X, Sumo, or similar biological modeling software. Experience working directly with environmental regulators (e.g., NJDEP, PADEP, MDE, NYDOH). Compensation Salary range: $80,000 – $180,000, dependent on experience and location.
