High School/AP Science Teacher

High School/AP Science Teacher – Full Time, Exempt Village Christian School – Sun Valley, CA 91352. Salary: $45,000.00 – $70,000.00 per year. General Responsibilities This position provides classroom instruction to high school students in the area of Science. Each teacher will incorporate a Christian worldview into their teaching and demonstrate excellent teaching, learning, thinking, and expression. Teachers are expected to have scholarly abilities in their subject area and to work toward providing a CAREing, Christ-centered education that helps students thrive. Each classroom teacher is accountable to the chair of his/her department, the Principal, and ultimately the Head of School. Specific Responsibilities Classroom Management Maintains a disciplined learning environment built on respect, grace, and passion for the subject. Is available to students and parents before and after school. Course Management Maintains organization plan for each assigned course (subject matter outline, daily lesson plans, etc.). Plans, prepares, and delivers instructional activities facilitating active learning experiences for both online and in-person instruction. Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all learning activities. Identifies and selects instructional resources and methods to meet students’ varying needs. Adheres to course outline as indicated in the curriculum and enriches curriculum when possible. Is adept at using relevant and cutting‑edge technology to develop relevant, real‑world learning experiences. Is committed to expertise and growth in discipline content and methodology. Observes and evaluates student performance and development. Assigns and grades class work, homework, tests, and assignments and provides appropriate feedback in a timely manner. Maintains accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development. Prepares grade reports, progress reports, and attendance reports in accordance with school policy. Manages student behavior by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures. Communicates necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and needs. Professional Responsibilities and Duties Is accessible to students as a “1:5 adult,” providing academic support, active listening, and advocacy while observing appropriate boundaries. Participates in department and school meetings, parent meetings, and evening events as assigned by the administration. Is willingly involved in the VCS community outside school hours. Continues to grow professionally by attending in‑service professional development activities. Faithfully completes reasonable extra duty assignments (supervision, mentoring, office hours, etc.). Executes all duties in a timely manner (holds class on time, meets deadlines, attends meetings on time, etc.). Maintains a ‘team player’ attitude and collaborates with colleagues and departmental teams. Maintains cordial, professional relationships with all students, staff, parents, and community members. Attends class overnight trips as assigned by administration. Abides by the spirit and policies in the VCS Employee Handbook. Spiritual Commitment and Growth Has a dynamic, growing faith and serves as a spiritual role model for students. Maintains a commitment to the school’s Statement of Faith in action and belief. Physical Requirements Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times. Must be able to traverse the school facility and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency. Qualifications Provides a “Christ‑Centered” education that integrates seamlessly with content area. Has a dynamic, growing faith and acts as a spiritual role model for students. Maintains a commitment to the school’s Statement of Faith in action and belief. Has skills in selecting and using appropriate technology for productivity and instruction. Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree (in Science or education field) and/or teaching credential preferred. Teachers with 4 or more assigned periods are awarded benefits.
