RESPONSIBILITIES o Cooks appropriate meals or snacks o Keeps works area clean/sanitized o Records necessary temperatures/information o Does assigned prep work/cleaning chores JOB SUMMARY The cook prepares food following standardized recipes in appropriate quantities according to the daily diet report. They perform other related duties as assigned. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS The Cook is responsible for the handling and preparation of food in accordance with food safety guidelines. Physical Demands: Work requires standing for the majority of the shift. Includes lifting, bending and carrying heavy items as well as continual cleaning of work surfaces and equipment used. Special Demands: Able to work well with others. Ability to follow menus, guidelines and special diets but also come up with appropriate substitutions as needed. QUALIFICATIONS Education: Ability to read, speak, write and follow oral and written directions. Training and Experience: Must have some basic food preparation knowledge. The Cook works in the dietary department preparing meals and snacks for long term care residents and patients. ServSafe certification – upon hire or within 180 days of employment.
