Position Summary

ERC Company is seeking an experienced CNC Programmer to join its manufacturing team in Compton, California. This position is ideal for an accomplished programmer who is comfortable working in a fast-paced job shop where part designs, materials, quantities, and machining requirements frequently change.

The CNC Programmer will develop, modify, and optimize accurate CNC programs and machining strategies for a variety of precision components. The successful candidate will possess extensive machining knowledge, a strong understanding of tooling and manufacturability, and the ability to collaborate effectively with machinists, Engineering, Quality, and Production personnel.

Experience with Mastercam is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Create, modify, optimize, and troubleshoot CNC programs for complex, precision-machined components.
• Review customer drawings, CAD models, specifications, tolerances, and other technical requirements.
• Develop effective machining strategies, toolpaths, setups, workholding concepts, and tooling requirements.
• Program CNC milling and/or turning equipment according to shop capabilities and production needs.
• Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, feeds, and machining parameters.
• Optimize existing programs to reduce cycle times, extend tool life, improve quality, and increase overall machining efficiency.
• Support machinists during program prove-outs, first-piece setups, troubleshooting, and process improvements.
• Identify potential manufacturability concerns and communicate them before or during production.
• Adjust programs based on inspection results, machine performance, and production feedback.
• Maintain organized, accurate, and properly controlled CNC programs and related manufacturing documentation.
• Partner with the Quality team to ensure finished components meet customer drawings, specifications, tolerances, and inspection requirements.
• Follow established procedures under the company’s ISO 9001 quality management system.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives involving programming, setup reduction, tooling, and machining processes.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.

Required Qualifications

• At least 10 years of CNC programming experience.
• Extensive knowledge of CNC machining principles, tooling, workholding, speeds and feeds, and machining processes.
• Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, CAD models, manufacturing specifications, and GD&T.
• Strong understanding of dimensional tolerances and precision-machining requirements.
• Experience programming components made from aluminum, stainless steel, steel, and other common industrial or aerospace materials.
• Ability to independently identify and resolve programming and machining problems.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
• Ability to balance quality, efficiency, tooling considerations, and production requirements.
• Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with machinists, engineers, inspectors, and production personnel.
• Flexibility to work with changing priorities, prototypes, short production runs, and repeat production orders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency with Mastercam .
• Previous experience in a job shop or high-mix precision-manufacturing environment.
• Experience programming both CNC milling and turning equipment.
• Experience working under an ISO 9001 or comparable quality management system.
• Demonstrated experience improving cycle times, reducing setups, extending tool life, and increasing machining efficiency.
