Department Description The System Planning department ensures the regional transmission system can reliably deliver electricity under a wide range of future conditions, from next season to the next decade. Within System Planning, the Economic Studies and Environmental Outlook Team analyzes future energy scenarios, evaluates economic impacts, and studies environmental trends that may influence the power system. Their work helps stakeholders better understand the opportunities and challenges facing New England's evolving energy landscape.

What You’ll be Working On As a Database Engineer Intern, you'll support the Economic Studies and Environmental Outlook Team by helping modernize how analytical results are stored, accessed, and visualized. Your primary project will be to: -Design and develop a centralized database for model solution files. -Create tools that allow users to query, filter, and compare results across multiple study models. -Build dashboards and visual analytics that make complex data easier to understand. -Improve how analysts access and evaluate large datasets. -Support automation initiatives that streamline workflows and reduce manual effort. You'll work with real-world data and collaborate with experienced professionals who use data-driven insights to support long-term planning of the electric grid.

By creating a centralized data platform, you'll: -Reduce manual analysis and the potential for human error. -Improve data accessibility and consistency. -Enable faster comparisons across planning scenarios. -Support better visualization and communication of study results. -Help teams make more informed decisions about the future of New England's power system. What We Look for in a Candidate -Rising Senior pursuing a degree in Economics, Data Analytics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. -Knowledge of SQL and database concepts. -Experience coding in Python. -Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. -Ability to work with large datasets and translate data into meaningful insights. -Interest in data architecture, visualization, analytics, or automation. Interns are eligible for some paid time off benefits and have access to our wellness program. Our internships also provide interns with exposure to the energy industry, mentorships, and real-world experience. This is a U.S. based role. If the successful candidate resides outside of the U.S., relocation will be required. To be eligible for an internship with ISO New England, a candidate must have completed at least the first year of college and be currently enrolled in a four year or graduate-level academic program.
