NON-CDL CAR/VAN DRIVER

Non-CDL Car Driver

Supervised by and Reports to: Director of Transportation

Transports school passengers, primarily individuals with special needs, via car between assigned stops and schools according to specified routes and time schedules. Maintains vigilance for individuals with special needs during the trip and adheres to safety rules when loading and unloading passengers.

Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspection of a car (vehicle). Reports operating and equipment deficiencies

Washes and cleans vehicle inside and out

Fuels vehicle as required and performs general vehicle maintenance, or delivers vehicle to appropriate maintenance facility

Obeys all traffic laws and observes mandatory safety regulations for school transport operations

Transports only authorized students and other passengers

Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as reasonably possible

Reports all accidents/incidents and completes required reports

Ensures passenger safety

Submits to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion and return-to-duty testing for alcohol and controlled substances, as required by School Board policies and Department of Transportation regulations

Performs other duties as assigned.

Skill in the safe operation of a school bus

The ability to detect malfunctioning equipment

The ability to assist children, using patience and understanding

General knowledge of the challenges involved in operating a school bus

General knowledge of the geography of the City and the location of streets

Excellent people and communication skills

A satisfactory driving record, showing that within the preceding 5 years the driver was not convicted of a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances, convicted of a felony, nor assigned to a rehabilitation program; that within the preceding 12 months the driver was not convicted of 2 or more moving traffic violations nor required to attend a driver improvement clinic by the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school

Some experience working with children

Basic first aid and CPR certifications preferred. However, training will be provided as necessary

A clear driving record from DMV

Light work requires the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects

Requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions

Requires vocal communication for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word

Requires hearing to perceive information at normal spoken word levels

Requires visual acuity for depth perception, peripheral vision, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities

The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, and atmospheric conditions.

Payscale: G4

Position Length: 10 months / 180 days

Hours: Part Time / Split shift
