What You'll Lead
Provide strategic leadership for the Public Works Engineering Division
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, project managers, inspectors, and technical staff
Plan and oversee major capital improvement and infrastructure projects from concept through construction
Manage project budgets, schedules, contracts, and engineering resources
Review engineering designs, reports, specifications, and technical documents
Ensure compliance with engineering standards, applicable regulations, and Missouri Professional Engineering requirements
Evaluate consultant qualifications, negotiate contracts, and oversee consultant performance
Review contractor pay applications and monitor project progress
Coordinate infrastructure improvements with developers, utility providers, regulatory agencies, and City departments
Prepare reports and recommendations for City leadership and the Columbia City Council
Respond to citizens, community organizations, and elected officials regarding engineering projects and public improvements
Help establish the long-term vision for Columbia's transportation and public infrastructure systems
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or another engineering discipline appropriate to Public Works
Seven to nine years of progressively responsible engineering, infrastructure, or construction experience
One to three years of supervisory or management experience
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required
Ideal Candidates Will Have
Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams
Strong capital project management experience
Knowledge of transportation, roadway, drainage, utilities, and municipal infrastructure
Excellent communication and public presentation skills
Experience managing engineering consultants and construction contracts
Strong financial and budget management abilities
Collaborative leadership style with proven mentoring experience
Commitment to innovation, public service, and continuous improvement
