This will allow us to be in compliance with newThis is a high-impact leadership role for an educator who believes deeply in the Science of Reading and is excited to support teachers through coaching, collaboration, and professional learning. The selected candidate will play a critical role in implementing UFLI Foundations and a new district-wide literacy assessment system—ensuring every classroom delivers high-quality, evidence-based instruction.Primary ResponsibilitiesCoach & Develop TeachersProvide individualized, job-embedded coaching to K–3 teachersModel strong literacy instruction and support teachers in refining their practiceLead coaching cycles focused on real-time feedback and student impactLead Literacy ImplementationGuide the rollout and ongoing success of UFLI FoundationsSupport teachers with lesson planning, routines, and instructional deliveryEnsure consistency and fidelity of literacy instruction across all schoolsUse Data to Drive InstructionSupport implementation of a new literacy assessment toolHelp teachers and leaders analyze data and plan targeted instructionFacilitate data conversations that lead to measurable student growthDesign & Deliver Professional LearningPlan and lead engaging, practical professional development sessionsBuild staff expertise in the Science of Reading and structured literacy practicesProvide ongoing support to ensure strategies are implemented effectivelyCollaborate Across SchoolsPartner with principals and instructional leaders to align literacy prioritiesSupport MTSS and intervention systems for early readersContribute to a strong, coherent network literacy visionCandidate ProfileYou are:Deeply knowledgeable about early literacy and the Science of ReadingAn excellent teacher with a track record of strong student outcomesSkilled at building relationships and coaching adult learnersData-driven and able to translate data into instructional actionOrganized, proactive, and committed to continuous improvementQualificationsBachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred (Literacy, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field)Valid teaching certificationMinimum 5 years of successful K–3 teaching experienceExperience coaching teachers and/or leading professional development strongly preferredFamiliarity with UFLI Foundations or similar structured literacy programs preferredWork EnvironmentBased at the home office with regular travel to four U Prep elementary campusesOpportunity to work closely with district and school leadership teamsCollaborative, mission-driven culture focused on student successReports to Senior Director of Curriculum and InstructionFull Time - 10-month positionDetroit 90 90 is an equal opportunity employer and prohibits discrimination of any kind.
