Location: Logistics: 1st FLR BLK 900 Compensation: $70,200- $104,977 per year (based on experience) Primary Purpose
- Patrols, investigates, monitors, and resolves emergencies, high-risk situations, and potential and existing breaches in security, while enforcing established policies to provide a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

- Must be licensed as a Peace Officer with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement TCLEOSE Tx Law Enforce Officer Std Edu .
- Must meet and maintain eligibility standards for licensing as a Texas Peace Officer.
- Must have a valid Driver License and obtain a Texas Driver License within 30 days of employment
- Applicants as of May 23, 2018 must pass with a minimum overall score of 70% or above the Police Officer Selection Test (P.O.S.T.) prior to hire.
- Applicants with three or more years of experience with less than a 180-day break in service are exempt from requirement to take and pass the Police Officer Selection Test (P.O.ST.) prior to hire.
- Applicants with three or more years of experience with less than a 180-day break in service are exempt from requirement to successfully pass a physical agility assessment prior to hire
- Employees in this job who were hired on or before 03/29/14 are exempt from requirement to take/pass the typing test and physical agility assessment.
- Must be able to pass typing test with a minimum of 20 words per minute, with no more than three errors.
- Must successfully pass a physical agility assessment.
- Must pass a pre-employment polygraph and psychological evaluation.
- May be subject to further written and/or oral pre-employment testing.
- Must be able to follow, practice and utilize the Peace Officer Weapons Standard and Qualification General Order to ensure the safety of officers, hospital staff, patients and visitors.
- Must have effective oral and written communication skills.
- Must have the ability to deal with PHHS staff and the public in a tactful and diplomatic manner.
- Must be able to make sound judgments.
- Must be able to testify in court to present case facts.
- Grandfathered Employee Statement: - Employees in this job who were hired on or before 03/29/14 are exempt from requirement to take/pass the typing test and physical agility assessment.
- Patrols assigned areas to discover, respond to, and resolve safety and security events, while adhering to established policies and practices to maximize security throughout the District campuses, buildings and assets.
- Conducts initial investigations to identify, resolve, and minimize potential or existing breaches in security. Identifies the need for crime scene protection, and takes the necessary preservation steps pending the arrival of the supervisor and/or investigator.
- Responds to emergencies, simple and complex high-risk service calls and reported security and safety hazards. Follows and enforces established laws, policies and procedures to ensure that proper steps are taken to resolve the situation.
- Compiles and prepares accurate and timely reports consistent with internal practice and as required by law.
- Initiates appropriate processes diligently to ensure that identification badges, access control and parking violations are handled promptly.
- Maintains a positive working relationship with employees, police/fire departments, various agencies, and the public to ensure that communications and procedures are carried out in an effective and professional manner.
- Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impacts or governs the department. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.
- Stays abreast of the latest advancements and trends in the police and security field by attending seminars/workshops and reading professional journals. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices. Maintains Texas Peace Officer certification and state firearms qualification.
- Identifies ways to improve work processes and customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor in support of the overall goals and mission of the district and department.
- Escorts patients, visitors and employees, as needed, to maintain a safe environment.
- Ensures vehicle and pedestrian traffic moves smoothly within the campus and surrounding areas. Assists customers and motorists by providing instructions and/or physical help as needed.
- Accepts and assumes responsibility for job functions performed and is accountable for results. Contacts supervisor in all instances where a problem, question, concern, confrontation, or complaint exists.
- Provides assistance in related areas and other assigned duties to maintain a safe and secure environment.
- Responds to violent physical encounters using the appropriate force necessary to achieve a lawful objective at the same time maintaining professionalism.
- Actively participates in Department training showing proficiency in defensive tactics, SAMA, ALERRT and other training as required by the department.
