Registered Nurse (RN)

The neurosurgical unit offers unique opportunities to care for a diverse patient population. Join a multidisciplinary team specializing in brain tumors, spinal malformations, neuroendovascular treatment, and epilepsy surgery. The unit features a mixed-acuity environment, including a high-acuity step-down unit designed for complex patients requiring hemodynamic and neurological monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in the neurosurgical unit.
• Conduct neuro checks on an hourly basis as required.
• Manage and monitor patients with ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunts, external ventricular drains (EVDs), lumbar drains, and subdural drains.
• Administer and monitor drips, including 3% sodium chloride and Cardene.
• Oversee patients with arterial lines and those undergoing carotid endarterectomy, aneurysm coiling/clipping, and deep brain stimulator (DBS) insertion procedures.
• Perform seizure management and support patients with high acuity stroke and neurosurgery needs.

Requirements

• Step-down or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience is required.
• Current BLS certification.
• High acuity stroke and neurosurgery experience is essential.
• Telemetry experience is mandatory.
• Valid RN license in New York.
• Minimum of two years of relevant nursing experience.
• ACLS certification is preferred.
• NIHSS certification is required.

This position requires a rotating shift schedule with weekends and holiday coverage. Nurses will have the opportunity to work either 36 or 48 hours per week.
