The Registered Nurse (Hospital-Based) provides nursing care to patients across all age groups, utilizing evidence-based practice and the UofL Health care model. Job Description The Registered Nurse (Hospital-Based) will deliver safe, optimal patient and family centered care by applying nursing practice competencies, leadership competencies and professional profile competencies. The RN collaborates with the care team to ensure comprehensive assessments, medication administration, individualized care planning, patient teaching, advocacy and quality improvement. Essential Functions Conduct systematic, continuous, and comprehensive assessments of patient health status from admission to discharge, ensuring patient safety and collaborating with the healthcare team. Administer medications independently per licensure authority, assess and reassess effects, document timely, and adhere to patient safety guidelines. Plan care using current scientific knowledge and nursing interventions, creating individualized, age‑specific plans that incorporate multidisciplinary data. Identify and prioritize patient problems, implement nursing interventions, and use chain of command to promote patient safety. Assess, conduct, and evaluate patient and family teaching, adjusting plans based on responses and cultural sensitivity. Perform systematic reviews of patient/family responses to interventions, revising care plans with the multidisciplinary team, and intervening to prevent adverse events. Advocate for patient and family, prepare for discharge, and obtain feedback to improve satisfaction. Collaborate with unlicensed assistive personnel, applying monitoring and delegation according to regulatory and legal requirements. Other Functions Demonstrate professional conduct and accountability for actions and outcomes. Orient new team members and supervise students in their duties. Act in a relief charge nurse role when the unit needs a charge nurse. Maintain professional competency through continuing education and licensure, pursuing life‑long learning and evidence‑based practice activities. Actively participate in the clinical team, resolve conflicts, give and receive peer review, and improve care delivery cost‑effectively. Maintain compliance with company policies, HIPAA privacy and security, and other standards. Perform other duties as assigned. Education Assciate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program (required). All new-hire Associate Degree RN are required to start an approved BSN program within one (1) year and complete it within three (3) years (required). Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program (preferred). Experience All new RN graduates will participate in the Nurse Residency program and complete all activities (required).uritycenter> Licensure Current KY RN licensure or a compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky (required). Certification Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (required). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) accredited by the AHA (may be required for specific clinical areas). Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) accredited by the AHA (may be required for specific clinical areas).
