Job Description

The Quality Engineering Technician serves as a key technical resource for complex nonconformance investigations, product quality concerns, and manufacturing quality issues in a regulated production environment. This role independently leads investigations, drives root cause and corrective action activities, coordinates large and complex sorting efforts, mentors other technicians, and collaborates closely with Quality Engineering and Manufacturing teams to reduce recurring defects and continuously improve quality processes and systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead investigations of nonconforming components, assemblies, finished devices, and supplier-related quality issues, ensuring thorough analysis, accurate documentation, and appropriate disposition.
• Independently evaluate complex or ambiguous quality concerns using engineering drawings, specifications, manufacturing procedures, quality records, product history, traceability data, and inspection techniques.
• Author, review, and complete defect and nonconforming material reports (DMRs/NMRs), rework logs (RLs), CAPA-related documentation, and other quality records in accordance with established procedures.
• Lead root cause investigations by evaluating failure modes, identifying contributing factors, recommending corrective actions, and verifying effectiveness.
• Partner with Quality, Manufacturing, Supplier Quality, Purchasing, Operations, and Engineering teams to resolve quality issues, support troubleshooting efforts, and drive process improvements.
• Lead and coordinate product or material sorting activities, including defining inspection criteria, determining resource requirements, training participants, and communicating results.
• Serve as a technical quality resource by interpreting acceptance criteria, providing guidance on quality system requirements, and escalating issues requiring engineering judgment.
• Identify quality trends and recommend improvements to inspection methods, manufacturing processes, procedures, workmanship standards, and employee training programs.
• Mentor, train, and review the work of Quality Engineering Technicians and other employees to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with quality standards.
• Use Epicor and other quality or manufacturing systems to conduct product history, traceability, and investigation activities.
• Support the development and revision of inspection instructions, investigation tools, quality procedures, and related documentation to improve consistency and effectiveness.
• Represent the technician team in cross-functional quality discussions and communicate investigation findings, recommendations, and quality concerns to key stakeholders.

Essential Skills

• Typically five or more years of experience in quality inspection, quality engineering support, medical device manufacturing, or a related regulated manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated experience independently leading nonconformance investigations and root cause analysis activities.
• Advanced knowledge of nonconformance processes, inspection methods, and quality system requirements in a regulated manufacturing setting.
• Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, assembly procedures, workmanship standards, and acceptance criteria.
• Advanced proficiency with measuring and inspection equipment used in production and quality control environments.
• Demonstrated ability to lead root cause investigations and support the implementation of effective corrective actions.
• Strong technical writing and documentation skills, including the ability to produce clear, concise, and complete quality records.
• Advanced experience using ERP, manufacturing, document control, and electronic quality systems, including Epicor or similar platforms.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Associate degree in quality, manufacturing, engineering technology, or a related technical field is preferred.
• Experience working within a medical device or similarly regulated manufacturing environment is highly beneficial.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to systematically identify and resolve complex quality issues.

Work Environment

This position operates in a regulated manufacturing and quality environment that focuses on medical devices or similar products. The role follows normal first-shift hours, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. You will work closely with manufacturing, quality control, inspection, packaging, purchasing, and engineering teams, using ERP systems such as Epicor, electronic quality systems, document control tools, and a range of measuring and inspection equipment. The environment emphasizes adherence to documented procedures, workmanship standards, and quality system requirements, with a strong focus on product traceability, nonconformance management, and continuous improvement.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Paul, MN.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Saint Paul,MN.
