Student Practicum Trainee

Ph.D., Psy.D., MFT and PCC

Department: Clinical

Reports to: Clinical Supervisor and Program Manager

FLSA Status: Volunteer (Unpaid)

Position Summary

Ensures mental health treatment services are provided in a way that maximizes the child and caregiver’s strengths and family empowerment. Provides individual and group counseling services to assist individuals in achieving more effective personal, social, educational, and vocational development and adjustment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Included but not limited to):

• Provides individual (adult and children), group, and family therapy

• Participates in interdisciplinary treatment planning

• Evaluates data to identify causes of problems of individuals and to determine the advisability of counseling or may refer to other specialists or institutions

• Conducts counseling or therapeutic interviews to assist individuals to gain insight into personal problems, defining goals, and planning actions reflecting interests, abilities, and needs

• Follow-up results of counseling to determine reliability and validity of treatment used

• Documents in the medical records according to requirements of company and regulatory agencies

• Provides crisis intervention consultation

• May teach various educational outreach classes (parenting, domestic violence, anger management, etc.) and provide on and off-site therapy in schools and Field Services

• May provide outreach consultation/education to community service clubs, organizations, human service agencies, hospitals, and various county departments

• Participates in program development and staff in-services

• Performs administrative functions consistent with the needs of the program

• Participates in staff meetings as required (all staff, mandatory group clinical supervision, and individual supervision

Education and Experience

• Currently in a Doctoral or Masters’ degree program from an accredited school in social work, counseling, psychology, or a related field; at least 18 graduate credits/Units taken

• Must be a member of professional organizations i.e., AAMFT, APA, NASW, or CAMFT

• Strong clinical and interpersonal skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Intermediate-level computer skills

Environment: Office

Work Hours: Usually standard business hours, but some evening and weekend hours, as needed

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required:

• Frequently sit, stand, walk, stop, kneel, and crouch, regularly talk and hear

• Frequently use hands, and fingers to handle or feel

• Occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds

• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision

• Depth perception and the ability to adjust focus

• Ability to drive surface streets and highways
