Embedded Software Engineer Owego, NY • Onsite About the company A leading defense and aerospace organization developing advanced mission-critical systems for military and commercial applications. The team works across avionics, weapons systems, ground-based defense, and space systems. Job description Designs, develops, operates, and maintains embedded software and firmware components for safety-critical avionics systems. Applies engineering standards, processes, and tools across the full software development life cycle. Interfaces with customers, suppliers, application users, and cross-functional technical personnel. What you'll be responsible for
Contract position • No required overtime • Owego, NY
- Design, develop, test, and debug device drivers, boot loaders, and built-in-test libraries for safety-critical avionics mission computers
- Develop in C targeting the LynxOS/LynxElement Real-Time Operating System (RTOS)
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on software/FPGA/hardware interfaces
- Integrate custom-designed hardware and FPGAs with software in a lab environment
- Support documentation, error correction, and performance validation
- Participate in certification activities including requirements and code reviews to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards
- Extensive embedded software development experience (16+ years with BS, or 14+ years with MS)
- Proficiency in C programming for embedded/real-time environments
- Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS)
- Familiarity with device driver development and boot loader design
- Experience supporting safety-critical or certifiable software systems
- FPGA integration experience
- Experience with LynxOS or LynxElement RTOS specifically
- Background in avionics or defense systems
- Familiarity with DO-178C or similar safety-critical certification standards
