Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant – Nephrology Shift: Mon‑Fri, Sat, Sun (Days Vary), 8 am‑5 pm Category: Advanced Practice Clinicians Employee Type: Full‑Time Position Summary Phoenix Children’s Division of Nephrology is seeking a dedicated Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to support our growing inpatient nephrology program. The role supports a multidisciplinary team providing complex inpatient kidney care to infants, children and adolescents. The APP will provide high‑quality care, care coordination, family education, and collaborate across units and inpatient medical services. Key Responsibilities Provide comprehensive inpatient nephrology care in collaboration with pediatric nephrologists. Evaluate, diagnose and manage kidney‑related disorders in hospitalized children. Support pediatric patients requiring dialysis and CKRT. Coordinate care plans with multidisciplinary teams across inpatient units. Participate in daily rounds, discharge planning and patient/family education. Assist with quality improvement and evidence‑based practice initiatives. Contribute to a collaborative teaching environment. Position Duties Conduct comprehensive health history, physical assessments and develop care plans for infants, children and young adults with acute and chronic health conditions. Order and prescribe pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic interventions, and perform therapeutic measures to treat illness and improve health status. Formulate family‑centered care plans and document daily as required. Collaborate and coordinate care with team members. Collect and analyze data as necessary. Perform advanced procedures aligned with credentialing requirements. Utilize current evidence‑based practice for care planning and adjust plans according to family needs and effectiveness. Serve as an educational resource for patients, families, nursing staff, providers and other healthcare teams. Participate in professional development, maintain required competencies, and act as a preceptor or mentor for new staff and students. Demonstrate commitment to patient safety and report concerns through appropriate channels. Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested. Position Qualifications Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited graduate school of nursing (ACEN/CCNE) in Pediatric Acute Care, Pediatric Primary Care or Family Medicine OR Master’s degree from an accredited ARC‑PA program. Excellent interpersonal skills, strong verbal communication and basic computer skills. Current BLS certification for Healthcare Provider issued by the American Heart Association. Current State of Arizona certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. National board certification in the area of education, or maintain a certificate in National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Physical Requirements Continuous use of fine‑motor skills, hearing, and speaking. Regular use of reaching, pushing/pulling, sitting, standing, stooping/crouching/kneeling and walking. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance; occasionally lift more than 35 pounds. Ability to use keyboard, mouse and computer equipment continuously. Capacity to work in an indoor environment and handle airborne communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, fumes, hazardous materials, radiation, and toxic chemicals.
