Chief Nursing Officer Responsibilities As a Chief Nursing Officer leading one of our facilities, you’ll be responsible for: Providing strategic leadership as the senior executive responsible for all nursing and other designated patient care functions within the hospital organization. Functioning at an executive level to provide effective and coordinated leadership to deliver nursing care, treatment, and services. Assuming responsibility for assessing, planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating nursing practice on a facility level. Assuming 24/7 responsibility and accountability to ensure high quality, safe and appropriate nursing care, competency of clinical staff, and appropriate resource management related to patient care. Representing nursing concerns on the governing board and at medical staff leadership meetings. Serving as a member of professional staff committees in matters pertaining to patient care and having authority to speak on behalf of nursing and clinical areas to the same extent that other hospital leaders speak for their respective disciplines or departments. Demonstrating thorough knowledge of federal, state, local laws, and accreditation standards. Implementing standards of nursing practice and standards of care, annually reviewing and revising as necessary to reflect changes in nursing practice. Demonstrating knowledge of proper identification and reporting of medical/health care errors, protecting the patient in the event of an error, and assisting in error resolution as appropriate. Demonstrating knowledge of responsible cost‑control mechanisms to insure maximum effectiveness of funds expended from approved departmental budgets. Qualifications To be considered for a Chief Nursing Officer position within our facilities, you must possess the following qualifications: Active and current professional registered nurse license in the state where you practice. Academic degree in nursing; a postgraduate degree in nursing or a related field (such as healthcare administration or business administration) is required, or a written plan with specified timelines to obtain such a degree. Current BLS (AHA) certificate and maintenance of current status. Minimum of five (5) years of progressive management experience in a facility environment as a Nursing Director of multiple, complex nursing departments. Minimum of two (2) years of previous leadership or administrative experience. Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills. Proven leadership ability and facility operational expertise. Ability to serve as a role model and advocate for the professional discipline of nursing. Proven ability to organize patient care efficiently, promoting optimal outcomes, patient safety, and satisfaction. Proven success in recruiting, retaining, and developing staff, with strengths in mentoring and encouraging professional growth. Proven track record of leading compliance with regulatory standards, rules, and laws. Benefits may vary based on employment status (full‑time, part‑time, per diem, or temporary). A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, including wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $230,000.00 to $250,000.00 annually, with exact compensation determined at the time of hire based on skills, experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
