SUMMARY:Working from a solutions-oriented approach, the staff Podiatrist treats a variety of foot and ankle ailmentsincluding calluses, ingrown toenails, heel spurs, and arch problems as well as foot and leg problems associatedwith diabetes and other diseases. These responsibilities include ensuring that podiatry is coordinated with theother clinical departments of Gracelight Community Health (“Gracelight”) in providing patients with a PatientCentered Medical Home. The position also serves as coach/mentor/trainer to other clinicians and clinicalsupport staff, giving guidance in best practices, troubleshooting of medical services and operations related toPodiatry. The position reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer or designee.As staff Podiatrist, the incumbent will perform routine procedures using independent professional judgment inthe practice of podiatry, within the scope of the laws of the state of California, the rules and regulations of theCalifornia Board of Health, and the policies of Gracelight.ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Supports and implements the organization’s vision, mission and values.2. Determines priorities and method of completing daily workload to ensure that all responsibilities arecarried out in a timely manner.3. Performs all job functions in a professional and courteous manner. this includes answering all generalphone calls timely and providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers.4. Supervises personnel to include screening, interviewing, hiring, disciplining and terminating. Guides,directs, disciplines, coaches and motivates staff regarding work performance, problem solving anddecision making to ensure staff meets work standards. Conducts all aspects of supervision in aprofessional, consistent and objective manner.5. Performs job duties independently and exercises good judgment.6. Fosters and promotes a culture of service excellence and accountability.7. Assess the condition of a patient’s feet, ankles, or lower legs by reviewing his or her medical history,listening to the patient’s concerns and performing a physical examination as needed.8. Diagnose foot, ankle, and lower-leg problems through local examination, x rays, medical laboratorytests, and other methods.9. Provide treatment for foot, ankle, and lower leg ailments, such as prescribing special shoe inserts(orthotics) to improve a patient’s mobility.210. Perform ambulatory foot and ankle surgeries and correcting foot and ankle deformities within thescope of out-patient practice.11. Give advice and instruction on foot and ankle care and on general wellness techniques and prescribemedications as needed.12. Refer patients to other physicians or specialists if they detect larger health problems, such as diabetes.13. Stays abreast of advances in podiatric medicine by attending trainings and conferences and read relatedmaterial.14. Provide podiatric support, counseling, and education in the management of common acute and chronicpodiatric illnesses.15. Make recommendations for promotion, commendation, or disciplinary action where necessary orappropriate.16. Consults complex and high priority cases with the director, assistant director or physician on duty orwith a specialist as needed.17. Works as a member of the health care team and assists in education of patients and the targetcommunity in preventive health care and health maintenance concepts.18. Demonstrates pattern of continued learning to ensure growth as a practitioner.19. Attends internal and external meetings, workshops, and conferences, and participates on task forces orcommittees, as necessary and/or required by TVHC, Inc.20. Performs all duties in support of successful EHR/EPM implementation.21. Demonstrates commitment to, and understanding of, TVHC's Service Excellence Standards, bymodeling service excellence in all internal and external relationships, addressing service excellencedeficits in staff, and in performance of all duties and responsibilities of this position.22. Provides additional assistance within and outside of clinical arena, as requested and/or as appropriate,to ensure the ongoing success of the organization.23. Must be willing and able to work at all locations as needed to meet patient care needs.24. Must be willing and able to work all business hours including evenings and weekends.25. Other duties or responsibilities as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:Completion of an accredited four-year post-graduate degree program, earning a Doctor of Podiatry (DPM) degree required.Licensure by the California Board of Heath to practice in the State of California required.Minimum of three years’ clinical work experience and two years’ experience managing a multi-provider practice preferred.LANGUAGE SKILLS:Ability to read and interpret documents, such as policies and procedures, benefits information, benefit surveys, board minutes, routine mail, simple contracts, and procedure manuals. Ability to compose routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with employees, visitors and management. Bilingual Spanish preferred.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and the ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.REASONING ABILITY:Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to apply common sense to daily situations that arise. Ability to make decision and execute timely in order to produce a positive outcome.OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Demonstrates ability and flexibility to work in other areas of the organization as needed.Adheres to company’s policies and procedures.Current, valid Podiatrist license in the State of California’s Board of Podiatric medicine.Current DEA license and CPR required.Demonstrates a broad knowledge of and competency in management and supervisory functions.Demonstrates knowledge of current compliance standards for federal, state and local regulatory agencies.Maintains and promotes a safe work environment.Demonstrates excellent communication skills, both oral and written.Demonstrates proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Word and Outlook.Displays positive outlook on the job and promotes professional behavior always.Ability to organize and prioritize work with minimum supervision.Leadership skills to provide direction to the health center and inspire others.Diplomacy skills to work effectively in politically sensitive situations.Ability to manage time efficiently and follow through on duties to completion.Understands and commits to maintaining highest level of confidentiality.Demonstrated ability to build the trust and respect of patients, staff, colleagues, and other external contacts.Excellent problem-solving skills required, including creativity, resourcefulness, timeliness, and technical knowledge related to analyzing and resolving medical problems.Sensitivity to needs of culturally and linguistically diverse patient and employee population.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
