FRANKLIN-MCKINLEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICTCLASS TITLE: PARA-EDUCATOR-SPECIAL EDUCATION(INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT-SPECIAL EDUCATION)BASIC FUNCTION:Under the direction of an assigned supervisor assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individual or small groups of students in an assigned special education program; monitor and report student progress regarding behavior and performance; perform a variety of clerical and support duties related to classroom DUTIES:Assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to students in an assigned special education program such as Special Day Class (SDC) Resource Specialist Program (RSP) severely handicapped or other special education assignment. EPrepare instructional materials as directed by the teacher; administer monitor and score a variety of tests; rephrase materials and explain instructions and words. EObserve and control behavior of students according to approved procedures; report progress regarding student performance and behavior. EPerform a variety of clerical duties such as preparing typing and duplicating instructional materials scoring papers and recording grades; prepare and maintain student records and files as assigned. EConfer with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet the individual needs of special education students. EDirect group activities of students as assigned; assist in monitoring lunchroom and playground activities as assigned; accompany students on field trips as assigned. EProvide support to the teacher by setting up work areas displays and exhibits operating audio-visual equipment operating educational training equipment and distributing and collecting paper supplies and materials; assist with the preparation of student portfolios. EOperate a computer and other office equipment as assigned; operate assistive devices as assigned. EAccompany students to computer labs library or bus stops as students with various self-help skills as assigned by the the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and the confidentiality of student records and information according to established in staff meetings and in-service training programs as related duties as AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of:Child guidance principles and practices especially as they relate to special education and concerns of students with special subjects taught in District schools including arithmetic grammar spelling language and practices in classroom and playground instructional methods and English usage grammar spelling punctuation and and written communication skills using tact patience and record-keeping procedures and appropriate student of office machines and computer to:Assist with instruction and related activities in an assigned special education clerical duties such as filing duplicating and maintaining and write subtract multiply and divide quickly and and follow oral and written the procedures functions and limitations of assigned effectively with children and interpret apply and explain rules regulations policies and and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with confidentially with effectively both orally and in and discipline students according to approved policies and instructional and office regular AND EXPERIENCE:Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and one year experience in working with children in an organized CONDITIONS:Environment:Classroom environment.
