OSH CO HYGIENIST TRAINEE OSH COMPLIANCE HYGIENIST I

Maryland Department of Labor is currently accepting applications from qualified candidates for an OSH Hygienist I position within the Division of Labor and Industry, Safety Inspection program. Position Overview Grade 15. Location: 10946 Golden West Drive, Suite 160, Hunt Valley, MD 21031. Main Purpose: Conduct occupational safety and health inspections at the entry level in the Division of Labor and Industry. Position Duties Participates in formal and on-the-job training programs related to safety and health inspection. Learns how to interpret complex technical standards, policies and procedures necessary for enforcement of the Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Law. Under supervision, observes and participates in routine safety and health inspections and interventions in private and public sector establishments. Develops, prepares and submits oral and/or written reports of field activity as required. Performs other duties as assigned by management. Minimum Qualifications Four years of experience inspecting, researching and analyzing chemical and physical workplace hazards affecting employee health. Substitution: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in industrial hygiene, physical science or life science, with 12 credit hours in chemistry and 18 additional credit hours in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology or industrial hygiene may substitute for required experience. Substitution: U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in General Inspection, Investigation, Enforcement and Compliance classifications or in related specialty codes on a year-for-year basis may substitute for required experience. Desired or Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated experience with occupational safety and health programs in accordance with regulatory standards and best practices. Experience in industrial hygiene sampling, including the collection and analysis of air, noise, and chemical exposure data, with knowledge of OSHA/NIOSH sampling methods, proper use and calibration of monitoring equipment, and ability to interpret and report results accurately. Licenses, Registrations and Certifications Employees may be assigned duties requiring the operation of a motor vehicle. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license in the State of Maryland is required. Special Requirements Substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09. Background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance.
