Human Resources Generalist

UniSea is looking for a detail-oriented HR Generalist, whose primary focus will be full cycle recruiting and employee relations to join our HR Team in Redmond, WA.

The HR Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with senior HR management. They will carry out responsibilities in the following functional areas: benefits administration, employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, recruitment/employment, and employment law compliance.

Essential Duties

1) Guide and counsel employees and managers on employee relations issues and human resources policies and practices. Listen to concerns and take prompt and appropriate action, as necessary. Conduct investigations as directed, including interviewing and documenting conversations with appropriate parties, and suggesting recommendations for resolution. 

2) Act as Human Resources liaison for UniSea Cold Storage. Assist managers and supervisors by providing guidance on employee performance issues, including making recommendations regarding appropriate courses of action and providing direction on appropriate written documentation. Assist in creating appropriate written performance guidance documentation as requested by managers/supervisors. Participate in employment terminations, assisting with appropriate documentation and communication of separation information.

3) Act as primary recruiter for the seasonal recruiting of Alaska based seafood processing workers. Conduct virtual interviews, make job offers, and post offer screenings for candidates while providing excellent customer service, status updates and communications to candidates. Coordinate and assist HR Associates with recruiting tasks including scheduling interviews, candidate reviews, and communications. Occasional travel may be required for in-person recruiting purposes. 

4) Recruit and hire for other UniSea hourly and salaried positions as assigned. 

5) Conduct exit interviews with employees as requested. Assist in development, implementation, and analysis of employee surveys.

6) Plan and execute company-sponsored employee events and employee recognition. Support the HR team by providing backup coverage during vacations.

7) Assist in assessing employee training requirements. Locate classes and/or prepare training materials, schedule classes, and give training presentations.

8) Complete employment verifications, unemployment information requests, and employee records requests, as needed.

9) Create HR documentation and complete data entry related to hiring, transfers, terminations, and other employee records in the HRIS and employee files. Maintain digital employee files and records.

10) Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

· Associates degree or equivalent knowledge and work experience in Human Resources is required.

· Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Human Resources or Management preferred.

· PHR or SHRM-CP strongly desired.

· Must have at least 3 years of previous Human Resources work experience focusing in general HR and/or recruiting roles.

· Previous seafood industry HR experience strongly preferred.

· Must have excellent customer service skills. Our "customers" are our employees and may require help over email, phone calls, or in person.

· Bilingual in Spanish or Tagalog, desired but not required.

· Must be detail oriented and able to identify inaccuracies and typos in data and maintain accurate records and spreadsheets.

· Must have strong working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, OneDrive).

· Must be able to always maintain confidential employee information.

· Must be able and willing to travel to Anchorage, Alaska, Dutch Harbor, Alaska or on other required recruiting trips, with advance notice.

· Must be able to work in a normal office environment by sitting at a desk, operating a computer, typing, answering phone calls, and scanning documents. Occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 15 pounds may be required.

· Must be able to pass a post offer drug screen and criminal background check.

This is a salaried non-exempt position located in Redmond, Washington with a starting salary of $61,095 - $76,000 per year.
