Fair Labor Standards Act Status: Hourly Job Summary/Purpose : The Cardiac Sonographer I report to the Cardiac Sonographer Supervisor. Under general supervision, the Cardiac Sonographer I perform high quality echocardiograms for interpretation and diagnosis by a Cardiologist in a professional manner that is consistent with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. This role applies knowledge of clinical cardiology, acoustic imaging technology, and problem-solving skills to optimize the echocardiographic evaluation, tailoring and expanding the exam to ensure comprehensiveness and diagnostic accuracy and requires independent and efficient performance of Echo exams. This role organizes and prioritizes patient exams and contributes to unit teamwork. This role assists in the orientation and training of residents, students, and visitors assigned to the Echocardiography Laboratory. The Cardiac Sonographer II reports to the Cardiac Sonographer Supervisor. Under general supervision, the Cardiac Sonographer II performs high quality echocardiograms for interpretation and diagnosis by a Cardiologist in a professional manner that is consistent with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. This role applies knowledge of clinical cardiology, acoustic imaging technology, and problem-solving skills to optimize the echocardiographic evaluation, tailoring and expanding the exam to ensure comprehensiveness and diagnostic accuracy and requires independent and efficient performance of Echo exams. This role organizes and prioritizes patient exams and contributes to unit teamwork. This role assists in the orientation and training of residents, students, and visitors assigned to the Echocardiography Laboratory. Minimum Training and Education: Graduation from a Cardiovascular / Ultrasound program or equivalent experience, and registry eligible for certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) certification by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) preferred. Associate of Arts/Science or bachelor's degree / graduation from a Cardiovascular / Ultrasound program or equivalent experience is preferred. New graduates of a cardiac ultrasound program must obtain appropriate credential within one year from the date of graduation per IAC standards. Registry-eligible Cardiac Sonographer I is listed as provisional technical staff and required to work under appropriate supervision of a credentialed sonographer. One year of training/experience in performing cardiac ultrasound procedures including 2D, M-Mode and Doppler preferred. Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and hemodynamics desired. Graduation from an accredited Cardiovascular / Ultrasound program or equivalent experience and certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) as a RDCS, or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) certification by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) required. Associate of Arts/Science or bachelor's degree / graduation from a Cardiovascular / Ultrasound program or equivalent experience is preferred. A minimum of two years of echo work experience in performing M-mode, 2-D, 3-D, spectral and color Doppler required. Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, hemodynamics, and adult congenital echo required. Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required; either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Additional Job Description Education: Graduation from a school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Work Experience: 2-4 years. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required. Physical Requirements
