Senior Health & Safety Specialist

Primary responsibilities will include:

Develop, implement, and continuously improve health and safety programs, policies, procedures, and standards.
Partner with manufacturing, maintenance, engineering, and leadership teams to identify, assess, and mitigate workplace hazards and occupational health risks.
Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, job hazard analyses, and workplace inspections to ensure regulatory and company compliance.
Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action planning to prevent recurrence of injuries, illnesses, and near misses.
Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics, injury trends, workers' compensation data, and regulatory reporting requirements to identify opportunities for improvement.
Ensure compliance with OSHA and other applicable regulatory requirements, company policies, and industry best practices.
Coordinate regulatory inspections and serve as a liaison with health and safety agencies and external stakeholders.
Develop and deliver health and safety training programs for teammates, contractors, and leaders.
Support emergency preparedness, emergency response planning, and crisis management activities.
Facilitate safety committees and engagement initiatives that promote teammate involvement and accountability.
Lead projects and initiatives of diverse scope while working independently with limited supervision.
Support continuous improvement and automation initiatives that enhance safety performance and operational effectiveness.
Utilize advanced analytical and technical problem-solving skills to develop innovative solutions to existing processes and procedures.
Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders through effective communication, collaboration, and influencing skills.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of progressive health and safety experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or heavy-production environment.
Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety compliance requirements.
Experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
Experience leading safety audits, risk assessments, and hazard identification programs. Knowledge of industrial ergonomics, machine guarding, lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space, hot work, and contractor safety programs.
Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver safety training to teammates at all levels of the organization.
Experience managing OSHA recordkeeping, injury and illness reporting, and regulatory documentation.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and data analysis tools.
Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills.

Preferred Certifications :

Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
ssociate Safety Professional (ASP).
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST).
First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification.

Measurable goals for this role to complete in the first 90-120 days:

Safety Leadership & Site Assessment Complete a comprehensive review of all health and safety programs, procedures, and regulatory compliance requirements within the first 60 days.
Conduct safety assessments and walkthroughs in 100% of production, maintenance, warehouse, and support areas within the first 90 days.
Develop and present a prioritized site safety improvement plan to plant leadership by Day 120.
Compliance & Risk Reduction Review OSHA-required programs and identify all compliance gaps within the first 60 days.
Complete at least one audit of each major safety program (LOTO, machine guarding, confined space, fall protection, contractor safety, emergency response, etc.) within 120 days.
Establish corrective action tracking and achieve closure of at least 80% of identified high-risk items by Day 120.
Incident Management Review the previous 24 months of injury, illness, near-miss, and workers' compensation data within the first 60 days.
Ensure 100% completion and documentation of incident investigations for all recordable injuries and high-potential near misses during the onboarding period.
Develop recommendations targeting the facility's top three injury trends by Day 120.
Safety Culture & Engagement Build working relationships with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, HR, and Plant Leadership teams within the first 60 days.
ttend or facilitate safety meetings across all departments and shifts within the first 90 days. Launch at least one safety engagement initiative or campaign designed to increase teammate participation in hazard identification and reporting by Day 120.
Training & Awareness Assess the effectiveness of current safety training programs within the first 90 days.
Verify completion status of required safety training and develop an action plan to address any identified gaps.
Deliver or coordinate targeted training sessions for leaders and teammates on identified high-risk areas.
Metrics & Reporting Establish a standardized safety dashboard reporting key metrics such as: Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) Near Miss Reporting Safety Observations Corrective Action Completion Training Compliance Workers' Compensation Trends Present monthly safety performance updates and recommendations to plant leadership.

Success at 120 Days Would Look Like:

Strong relationships established across the plant.
Complete understanding of regulatory and operational risks.
Clear safety improvement roadmap developed and approved.
High-risk compliance gaps identified and corrective actions underway. Credibility established as a trusted safety resource and business partner.
Measurable improvements in safety engagement, accountability, and risk awareness across the facility.
