Join the healthcare team at the Philadelphia Department of Prisons as a Infirmary Registered Nurse and make a meaningful difference in a unique and rewarding clinical setting.

In this role, you will provide hands-on nursing care to individuals with acute and chronic medical needs within a secure correctional environment. As an Infirmary RN, you will collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary staff, respond to medical emergencies, administer medications and treatments, and support continuity of care for a diverse patient population. This position offers the opportunity to strengthen your clinical judgment, critical thinking, and emergency response skills while working in a structured, team-oriented setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Prior acute care experience preferred (e.g. hospital, medical-surgical, Step-Down, ER).

• 7p-7a,(4-3-3-4) Schedule

• Provide timely and effective responses to medical emergencies, including performing CPR until relieved.

• Administer medications and accurately document in the Medication Administration Record (MAR).

• Conduct patient assessments, perform histories and physicals, and refer to appropriate healthcare providers as needed.

• Assist Physicians during patient examinations and implement treatment orders.

• Educate patients and correctional staff on healthcare practices and safety protocols.

• Collect specimens and samples as directed by Physician orders.

• Maintain compliance with infection control practices, including Universal Precautions, and adhere to safety and security regulations for controlled medications, keys, and sharps.

• Perform venipuncture and IV therapy.

• Actively participate in disaster drills and follow all established security and safety protocols.

• Complete additional duties as assigned by management.

• Starting rate: $49.00/hr.

Key Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

• Current state license as a Registered Nurse (RN).

• Active BLS certification required through American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

• Knowledgeable about state laws and regulations governing nursing practice.

• Completion of clinical competencies (initial and annual) as per role requirements.
