Family Practice - Geriatrics Physician

Overview Valor Healthcare is seeking a Primary Care Physician to join the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Cookeville, TN. Valor operates more than 50 VA CBOCs in the United States as a contractor for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. We provide a full range of medical services to veterans through CBOCs, including primary care, diagnostics, laboratory, telehealth, behavioral health, and more. Responsibilities Actively diagnose and treat veterans. Examine patients for symptoms of disorders, determine the nature and extent of injury or illness, and perform comprehensive physical examinations. Develop and implement patient management plans and provide continuity of care. Order and perform diagnostic tests. Prescribe medication and recommend dietary and activity programs as indicated by diagnosis. Counsel patients on prescription medications, educate patients, assess mental health issues, and provide routine health maintenance. Evaluate patients’ records from providers outside the VA and coordinate with them under VA co-management rules. Complete clinical reminders at the time of each patient visit. Document the medical record within 24 hours of a patient encounter. Solicit medical management consults or input when appropriate. Comply with VA guidelines regarding timely responses to patient requests, alerts, notifications, consults, orders, lab results, and diagnostics. Comply with the VA formulary process and consult protocols. Collaborate with mid-level providers where appropriate and needed. Ensure clinical documentation and complete encounters by close of business as required by VA guidelines. Address the clinical needs of walk-in/triage/urgent care patients. Comply with VA and company training requirements. Maintain VA requirements related to women’s health certification and competencies, and ongoing maintenance of such certification. Fulfill compliance requirements of regulatory bodies (e.g., OIG, JC, EOC, and related items). Focus on achieving excellent clinical outcomes per VA guidelines. Provide excellent customer service to veterans, colleagues, and clinic visitors. Participate in clinic outreach events to support enrollment initiatives. Support patient enrollment and retention by guiding scheduling and follow-up visits as needed. Embrace and support new clinical or operational initiatives and contribute to strategic objectives of Valor. Qualifications 4+ years of clinical medical practice; government healthcare environment preferred. Requirements may vary based on VA contract. Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree. Board certification in Family Practice or Internal Medicine. Credentialed and in good standing with the Veterans Health Administration (VA). Valid, unrestricted medical license in the state of employment or as required by VA contractual needs. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (valid for two years) and ACLS as specified by VA contract. Current, unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration. Proficiency in written and spoken English. Excellent computer skills and an energetic, optimistic demeanor. Strong service mindset and commitment to Defined Service Standards.
