About the role

Copper Spring is hiring an Operations Manager to support the internal aspects of the firm, with a goal of freeing up owner time to focus on business development and other leadership tasks.

Jim and his late wife, Shelly Kruse, founded Copper Spring Solutions in 2013, but Jim has multiple decades of experience in the industry. As the premier drywall and framing contractor in northern Colorado, the team has completed an extensive resume of work, including work for a variety of churches, apartments, schools, and other commercial buildings.

This role has vast potential for growth. The right hire will develop key competencies across all aspects of the business, leading to further influence and leadership within the firm as we grow.

What you will own

Bookkeeping and records

• Day-to-day bookkeeping: accounts payable and receivable, invoicing, expense coding, reconciliation
• Month-end and year-end support
• Coordination with fractional CFO and owners on financial matters

The office

• Running office operations: vendors, supplies, records and renewals
• Keeping contracts and files where they can be found
• Often the first professional impression a customer gets, via phone or walk-in

The schedule

• Schedule coordination for internal meetings and client interactions
• Supporting the owner with calendar management and delegation

Growth support

• Light sales and marketing coordination: following up on estimates, keeping the customer list current, and supporting email and marketing outreach with potential partners and buyers

And the part that is not a list

• Improving the processes you inherit rather than only operating them
• Taking work off the owner's plate permanently rather than temporarily

What you bring

Required

• Experience in a trades business: plumbing, electrical, general contracting or similar. This one is not negotiable. You have to understand how a job actually gets scheduled, bid, run and billed, and that is not something we can teach quickly.
• Comfort across most business functions rather than depth in one. Bookkeeping, scheduling, office administration and customer communication all sit in this seat.
• Initiative. You see a problem and close it, rather than reporting it and waiting.
• Clear, direct, prompt communication with field staff, customers, vendors and the owner.
• A bias toward finishing things.

Nice-To-Have

• Drywall or framing experience specifically
• Job costing or construction accounting
• Having helped a growing company put in systems it did not have before

Not required

• A degree. If you have one, good. If you learned this by doing it, equally good.
• Large-company experience. This is a hands-on job.

Compensation

Target total pay: about $58,000 to $68,000 a year at a typical 45-hour week, including overtime.

Hours and overtime: This position is non-exempt, and the schedule is typically about 45 hours a week. Pay is $23.48 to $27.53 an hour, which is about $48,800 to $57,300 a year in base pay for a 40-hour week. Hours over 40 in a week, and as Colorado law otherwise requires, are paid at 1.5 times the hourly rate ($35.22 to $41.30 an hour). At 45 hours every week of the year, that comes to about $58,000 to $68,000 in total; weeks with paid time off or a holiday carry less overtime. Hours are tracked, and overtime is always paid.

Bonus and other compensation: No bonus, commission or profit-share program is currently in place.
