Operating Engineer 1 or 2 (HVAC) A Louisiana State University of Alexandria classified position in Utility Plant Operations. Location Alexandria, Louisiana Pay Range $38,230 – $73,632 per year (position-specific) Position Type Classified, Civil Service position. No Civil Service test required. Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance on boilers, ventilation, refrigeration, air conditioning, generators, pumps, and compressors. Monitor, operate, and control boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and other utility equipment, including adjusting fuel, airflow, water level, steam pressure, and valve operation. Start and stop pumps, ignite gas or oil‑fired boilers, regulate processes, and read gauges. Execute minor repairs on boiler and related equipment and assist skilled workers with major repairs. Administer chemicals to closed systems, cooling towers, and boilers; test water for chemical content. Maintain plant and building HVAC equipment through electronic automation systems. Operate or assist in pump station and wastewater treatment maintenance. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications One year of experience or training in operation or maintenance of large stationary engines or mechanical equipment (Operating Engineer1). Two years of experience or training in operation or maintenance of large stationary engines or mechanical equipment (Operating Engineer2). For positions involving refrigerants, possession of a valid EPA Section608 certification is required. Additional Requirements Probationary status for at least 12months.
