Join Stantec’s Environmental Services Cultural Resources Team in Southern California to grow our Cultural Resources program, supporting projects such as statewide utility compliance, hydroelectric relicensing, and CEQA & Section 106 reviews. The role involves on‑call archaeology fieldwork with flexible scheduling. Your Responsibilities Support archaeological field directors and project managers with planning, surveys, STPs, excavations, and construction monitoring. Identify, document, and record pre‑contact and historic‑era cultural resources, including built‑environment resources, meeting state and federal standards. Produce detailed field documentation: site records, feature forms, Munsell soil descriptions, sketch maps, and photographic logs. Use digital mapping tools (ESRI Field Maps, Survey123, ArcGIS Online, etc.) and GPS/GNSS units with sub‑meter accuracy. Conduct desktop research, including record searches, archival reviews, and preparation of DPR 523 forms or equivalents. Assist with archaeological impact assessments and contribute observations for site significance under NRHP/CRHR criteria. Prepare timely deliverables: daily logs, monitoring reports, and HSSE documentation. Follow safety protocols and field procedures, promoting a respectful work environment. Work independently or with a team in varied field conditions, often with limited supervision. Provide logistical support: equipment care, vehicle use, and supply coordination. Your Capabilities Willingness to learn, flexibility, strong communication, and the ability to work effectively in a team. Resident of Southern California with availability for moderate out‑of‑town travel. Completion of an archaeological field school or equivalent training. Familiarity with GPS/GNSS units and smart devices for geospatial data collection (Survey123, Collector, Fulcrum). Working knowledge of California DPR 523 site forms. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in remote areas and hot climates, including walking or hiking long distances and carrying up to 50 lbs. Strong technical writing skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Knowledge of California and/or Great Basin archaeology. Credentials and Experience Bachelor’s degree or higher in Anthropology or Archaeology from an accredited university. At least 1 year of relevant experience (field school, internship, lab, or CRM field work). California archaeological experience preferred. Experience on both small and large archaeological crews preferred. Pay Range Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ, VA: $50,100.00 – $70,100.00 annually. Locations in WA, DC & Various CA, MA, VA: $53,700.00 – $75,200.00 annually.
