Agency requires that the incumbent obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements within 30 days of employment.Knowledge: Knowledge of highway maintenance operations Knowledge of computers, basic office equipment, Gmail, and WYDOT databases/systems Knowledge of state highway pavement marking and signing standards Knowledge of state and federal highway safety standards and traffic control procedures Knowledge of equipment maintenance, basic mechanical diagnosis, and repair procedures Knowledge of hazardous materials response procedures Knowledge of federal and state requirements for the proper use of personal protective equipment equipment Knowledge of basic equipment operation for single and tandem axle trucks, loaders, and tractors; knowledge of specialized heavy equipment used in maintenance activities Knowledge of safe work procedures, First Aid and CPR, and OSHA Safety Data Sheets for chemicals used in maintenance activitiesMinimum Qualifications: Education: Associate's Degree (typically in Engineering) Experience: 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Highway Maintenance/Highway Construction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Highway Maintenance Technician Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must have the ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License within (12) months of hire OR Education & Experience Substitution: 2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Highway Maintenance/Highway Construction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Highway Maintenance Technician Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must have the ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License within (9) months of hireNecessary Special RequirementsFrequent use of manual and powered hand toolsDaily use of motor vehicles and heavy equipmentFrequent exposure to hazardous materialsAbility to lift and/or carry 50 pounds independentlyAbility to stand/sit and operate equipment for long periods of timeWork in adverse environmental conditions, which may include, but not be limited to, rain, snow, heat, and hailAbility to walk for long periods of time on even and uneven groundWorking around high-speed traffic and heavy construction equipmentIndividuals in this classification must be available for emergency work calls at any time, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Individuals must report to the Department Shop within 30 minutes of receiving the call.
