Job Description
Job Description
Mechanical Project Manager – Commercial, Industrial & Mission-Critical Construction (PM I / PM II / PM III / Senior PM)
Location: Onsite – Granite City, IL; Charlotte, NC; Raleigh, NC; Nashville, TN. Traveling Project Manager assignments are also available out of the Granite City, IL
Reports To: Project Management department leadership (Project Director)
Organization: Project Management department of a full-service, employee-owned (ESOP) mechanical contractor
Employment Type: Full-time, direct hire
Compensation: $68,000–$85,000 (Project Manager I); $80,000–$115,000 (Project Manager II); $110,000–$135,000 (Project Manager III); $105,000–$175,000 (Senior Project Manager, varies by market) base salary, depending on level, market, and experience — plus Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP), discretionary annual bonus, and 401(k) with discretionary company contributions.
About the OpportunityCAPISIUS Consulting is recruiting on behalf of a client delivering large-scale, self-perform mechanical construction — design engineering, fabrication, installation, modification, and ongoing service of process piping, power piping, boiler making, industrial equipment installation, industrial ventilation, HVAC, and plumbing. The client's name is confidential at this stage and will be disclosed to qualified candidates during the interview process.
Role OverviewThe client is hiring across the full Project Manager career ladder — Project Manager I, II, and III, plus Senior Project Manager — in four markets. You will manage and coordinate mechanical construction projects from conception to completion, on work where the mechanical scope alone can run into the hundreds of millions of dollars, across markets including data centers and emerging technology, healthcare, laboratories, pharmaceutical, automotive, manufacturing, and education.
This is a self-perform mechanical contractor environment, not an owner-side or facilities-operations role. You will own the commercial and technical outcome of your projects: buyout, subcontracts, RFIs, submittals, change orders, billings, fabrication work packages, schedule, and jobsite safety. Level placement is based on experience — candidates are welcome to apply once and be considered against the level that fits.
Key Responsibilities• Manage and coordinate mechanical construction projects from conception through completion.
• Understand each project in depth in order to order materials and equipment, issue subcontracts, develop billings, complete and manage RFIs and change orders, and prepare and review submittals — keeping the full project team informed throughout.
• Maintain a working knowledge of the general conditions, work scope, and specifications of the project contract or subcontract.
• Plan ahead to prevent problems and resolve emerging issues before they escalate.
• Estimate and sell projects of various delivery types: plan/spec, design/assist, and design/build.
• Oversee preparation of fabrication shop work packages, including detail drawing review, material take-off and buyout, and man-hour fabrication budgets.
• Partner with the Safety department to analyze, manage, and mitigate project risk, and oversee onsite and offsite construction for compliance with building and safety regulations.
• Ensure contractual conditions of performance are met.
Required QualificationsAll levels
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or proven working experience in Construction Management.
• Working knowledge of Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project, and a willingness to keep learning.
• Self-motivated, with strong time management and project management skills.
• Ability to work to deadlines and multi-task through changing priorities.
• Confidence in what you know, paired with the commitment to research and find the right answer for what you don't.
• A strong personal commitment to long-term, meaningful goals.
By level
• Project Manager I / II: 0–5 years as a Project Manager in mechanical construction. The Charlotte, NC and Raleigh, NC openings require a minimum of 2 years.
• Project Manager III: mid-to-senior mechanical construction project management experience, with a track record of independently running projects end to end.
• Senior Project Manager: 5+ years as a Mechanical Project Manager or in a similar role, including managing relationships with owner's representatives and maintenance staff.
Preferred Skills• Knowledge of HVAC and piping systems, building products, construction details and design, and the relevant rules, regulations, and quality standards.
• Familiarity with construction management software packages and overall strong computer skills.
• Experience on mission-critical, data center, healthcare, life sciences, or heavy industrial mechanical scopes.

Work EnvironmentOffice-based within the assigned branch, with regular presence on active jobsites to oversee onsite and offsite construction. Traveling Project Manager and Traveling Senior Project Manager assignments are available for candidates open to project-based travel.
Why Join?• Employee ownership — eligible team members share in the company's long-term success through an Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP).
• A growth story with room to move: the client has been recognized among the fastest-growing mechanical construction companies in the United States and as a regionally awarded Best Place to Work.
• Scale and variety — projects delivered in more than 40 states, with mechanical scopes that can reach hundreds of millions of dollars.
• A defined Project Manager career ladder (PM I through Senior PM and Project Director) rather than a single flat role.
• Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k) with discretionary company contributions; discretionary annual bonuses; paid time off and company holidays; paid parental leave; tuition reimbursement; an employee assistance program; and gym reimbursements.
