Reporter, Commerce

ADWEEK is seeking an ambitious, intrepid, and resourceful reporter to cover the blending of the commerce, technology, and advertising industries that is rapidly shaping the retail industry. This role will focus on breaking news, delivering deeply reported stories, and providing sharp and unique analysis that differentiates ADWEEK’s coverage and helps our audience understand the changing space. The commerce reporter will develop sources across retailers, brands, and advertising technology companies to establish themselves as the go-to expert on retail media. You’ll dig into Amazon’s $70 billion ad business, look at Walmart’s evolving strategy, and track how commerce companies of all sizes are building and justifying their ad businesses. You’ll also follow emerging business trends including agentic commerce and social shopping. Success in this role requires strong reporting instincts, curiosity, persistence, and the ability to build trusted sources within key companies. You should enjoy working on a mix of scoops, news, trends, and feature stories—and have the ability to frame them in new and interesting ways for our audience. This role reports to ADWEEK’s deputy editor of commerce and collaborates closely with the ADWEEK editorial team. The position is hybrid and based in ADWEEK’s New York office. Responsibilities: Author 3-4 bylined articles per week on commerce Build and regularly check in with a network of sources for inside scoops and news Manage a constant flow of breaking news hits and longer, multi-source trend features Contribute to relevant ADWEEK franchises Participate in coverage of events such as the Super Bowl and Cannes Lions Appear on ADWEEK’s podcasts and video projects Moderate sessions at ADWEEK panels or events Qualifications: Minimum 3 years of business journalism experience or a relevant degree in journalism A hunger to break news and tell agenda-setting stories An eagerness to establish a career with and a platform on the ad industry's leading publication A high level of curiosity; we seek someone who wants to dig below the surface to tell unique stories A quick study willing to dive into subject matter that they do not yet understand Proven ability to write clearly and concisely on deadline, while contributing constructively to team projects Working knowledge of retail media and advertising technology is a major plus About ADWEEK: ADWEEK is the leading source of news and insight serving the brand marketing ecosystem.
