Clinical Informaticist
Clinical Architecture is seeking a Clinical Informaticist to join our team in the Indianapolis, IN area. As part of a multidisciplinary Professional Services team, the Clinical Informaticist will bridge clinical practice and information technology by applying healthcare, terminology, interoperability, product, and data expertise to help customers solve complex health information challenges. This role contributes to project design, leads defined project components, and demonstrates emerging expertise across Symedical® and Pivot® to support client initiatives and improve patient care.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate deeper understanding of system configuration, interdependencies between modules, and the impact of changes on clinical workflows; independently apply terminology standards to complex concepts; analyze data to develop actionable recommendations; and communicate effectively with clinical, technical, client, and leadership stakeholders.
- This role is based on-site at our Carmel, IN Headquarters, five days a week. While we are an in-office organization, we do our best to offer flexibility when needed, ensuring both work-life balance and uninterrupted business operations.
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
- Providing false information on application questions may result in automatic dismissal of your application. Please answer questions truthfully and to the best of your ability.
Responsibilities
- Work with clients to understand their use case and requirements.
- Demonstrate in-depth understanding of Symedical® and Pivot® functionality within assigned domains, including system configuration, module interdependencies, limitations, workarounds, and the impact of product decisions on clinical operations.
- Research and recommend solutions and/or modeling approaches.
- Independently perform complex terminology mapping, normalization, and governance activities across standards such as LOINC, SNOMED CT, RxNorm, ICD, and CPT, including identification of gaps and data quality issues.
- Compare and critique available standards-based approaches to interoperability problems.
- Lead small to medium-sized informatics projects or significant workstreams within larger, complex projects, including planning, execution, delivery, risk communication, and stakeholder expectation management.
- Design and contribute to solutions for seamless data exchange between electronic health records, clinical applications, and client systems using appropriate interoperability standards, including HL7, FHIR, and related data exchange approaches.
- Develop content models to represent clinical information.
- Collaborate with Clinical Architecture's Medical and Informatics teams to assure accuracy of clinical information in technology platforms and materials.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
- Proactively identify opportunities to enhance client value, lead small client-facing discussions, contribute to solution design presentations, and ensure high-quality deliverables aligned with client objectives.
- Adapt communication style for clinical, technical, non-technical, client, and leadership audiences; facilitate effective meetings or workshops; build stakeholder relationships; and provide constructive feedback to peers.
- Analyze complex data sets using tools such as SQL, Excel, or business intelligence tools to identify trends, root causes, and actionable clinical or operational insights.
- Mentor junior informaticists on project tasks, terminology practices, data analysis, consulting behaviors, and client engagement expectations within assigned workstreams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing (BSN), Pharmacy (BPharm, MPharm, PharmD), Medical Laboratory Science or another clinical discipline is required.
- 5+ years of recent experience in a clinical informatics role, relevant healthcare IT environment, professional services setting, or biomedical enterprise is preferred; equivalent demonstrated responsibilities may be considered.
- Strong working knowledge of healthcare data management, clinical informatics, standardized terminologies, semantic interoperability, and data analysis required.
- Strong technical aptitude with the ability to learn new systems quickly; demonstrated ability to understand system integrations, data flows, and database structures.
- Experience with healthcare interoperability standards (e.g., HL7 v2, FHIR) and their application in laboratory data exchange required.
- Hands-on experience writing moderately complex SQL queries for data extraction, validation, analysis, and reporting is preferred.
