Radiation Therapist PRN: NO Nights NO Weekends!

Work Location: 95 N Greenleaf St Suite A, Gurnee, IL 60031 Starting range: $50.00–60.26 per hour Monday‑Friday scheduling, day‑shift Closed for holidays: Thanksgiving & the Friday after, Christmas Day, New Years Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. The Radiation Therapist is an essential member of the Radiation Oncology team who primarily functions in a specialized area of radiation therapy technology as a direct patient care provider in the Radiation Oncology Center. The Radiation Therapist is responsible for the performance of all duties relating to the administration of a prescribed course of Radiation Therapy, including interpreting complex medical prescriptions and working under pressure. The role requires clear verbal communication with personnel, patients, and physicians, exceptional task and detail orientation, and a focus on quality patient care based on each patient’s diagnosis and treatment needs. Responsibilities Accurately and efficiently review and/or administer daily prescribed Radiation Therapy treatments at a speed consistent with patient scheduling. Observe and adhere to all department policies concerning Radiation Therapy treatment procedures. Prepare room and equipment for patient by gathering all necessary supplies and setting up devices. Set appropriate treatment unit parameters. Activate the treatment unit and deliver the prescribed dose of radiation. Maintain visual and/or audible communication with the patient during treatment. Obtain appropriate port films when prescribed and adjust field placement as needed. Monitor patients for unusual reactions and events throughout the course of therapy and report to the Clinical Director and Radiation Oncologist. Keep immobilization devices clean and orderly, using them as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist. Maintain current knowledge of therapeutic procedures performed in the Radiation Oncology Department. Possess basic knowledge of Radiation Oncology equipment function to provide minor repair and troubleshooting (water and gas levels, laser alignment, etc.). Proficient in the use of all department equipment, including CT(s). Utilize appropriate body mechanics when moving/lifting patients and equipment. Apply safety principles in all duties. Record Radiation Oncology charges as procedures are performed. Keep records of machine downtime and maintain the machine fault list report. Assist supervisor in placing and scheduling service calls. Ensure proper hand‑off of responsibilities once tasks are completed. Ensure all medical records are accurate and complete within the system for all patients. Perform other related duties as assigned. Adhere to high standards of ethical conduct and comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies, including Solaris Health Code of Conduct, HIPAA confidentiality requirements, and annual compliance training. Certifications, Licensures or Registry Requirements Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) certification required. American Registry of Radiologic Technologist - ARRT (T) required. American Society of Radiologic Technologist (ASRT) membership preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Maintain current knowledge of therapeutic procedures performed in the Radiation Oncology Department. Understand healthcare systems operations such as EMR. Have at least six months of related experience and/or training, or equivalent education and experience. Knowledge of database management. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Customer‑oriented with the ability to remain calm in difficult situations. Deliver exceptional patient service throughout all interactions. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Proficient in computer programs and applications, including Microsoft Office. Build relationships with patients and display empathy and compassion. Work independently and manage deadlines. Comply with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality. Comply with all health and safety policies of the organization. Education Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent required. One (1) year certificate from a college or technical school in Radiation Therapy certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required.
