Qualifications

• Proof of high school graduation or GED equivalent.
• Experience working with children preferred.
• Flexible and able to adjust your daily routine.
• Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrate a professional appearance and attitude.
• Physically able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds.
• Must have one of the following:
• 48 hours of college credits, OR
• Associates or higher degree, OR
• Competency on the CFISD proficiency test (score of 70 or above).

$21,739/IP-2 as approved by the Board of Trustees.

*Vital aides earn an additional $3,000 annual stipend.

Essential Functions

• Implement lessons under the guidance of the teacher for functional academics (budgeting, reading bus schedules, basic writing for job applications) and independent living skills (cooking, laundry, self-care).
• May drive students into the community to practice social skills, safety, and navigation in real-world settings.
• Take data on specific transition goals while in the classroom or out in the community.
• Use proactive strategies to help students manage frustrations or social anxieties that arise in public or workplace environments.
• Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
• Help with inventory, care and maintenance of equipment, and supplies.
• Assist students with disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, and positioning.
• Assist students with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs and personal hygiene.
• Help manage behavior of students. This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed.
• Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus and playground duty, and travel to on-the-job training.
• Keep teacher informed of needs or problems of individual students.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher, principal or other school personnel supervisor.
• Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.

Working Conditions

• Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; other specialized and adaptive equipment used by students
• Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
• Motion: Frequent walking and reaching
• Lifting: May require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities, control behavior through physical restraint, assist non ambulatory students, and lift and move adaptive and other classroom equipment; may work prolonged or irregular hours
• Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather), exposure to noise, exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases)
• Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress
