ASSOCIATE & SCIENCE TEACHER

*Part-Time — 20 Hours/Week*

WHO WE ARE

The Morgan Oliver School (MOS) is a small, progressive K–8 independent school in Atlanta, built on an anti-racist, restorative model. We're organized into four cohorts — Allies, Activists, Organizers, and Liberators — and we're small by design: small enough that every adult in the building knows every child by name, and every child feels genuinely seen.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a hybrid, part-time role for an educator who's equally comfortable leading a small math group, supporting reading instruction, and designing hands-on science lessons for two different cohorts. You'll split your 20 hours a week between direct instructional support in an elementary classroom and delivering our science curriculum across the Activists (2nd–3rd grade) and Organizers (4th–7th grade) cohorts.

SCHEDULE

20 hours per week, broken up over 5 days, ranging from 2 to 6 hours per day depending on need. Your schedule will be agreed upon before the start of school and will stay consistent each week unless all parties agree to a change. Monday: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM (2 hrs) Tuesday: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM (2 hrs) Wednesday: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM (6 hrs) Thursday: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM (6 hrs) Friday: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM (4 hrs)

WHAT YOU'LL DO — GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Upload the year-long plan for each course before the first day of school; upload weekly lesson plans in advance, by end of day Thursday for the following week Follow protocol and methodology outlined in student behavior logs for handling disruptive or challenging behaviors, and for the repair process — informing both the classroom teacher and the Middle School Director when filing a behavior log Use positive language framing with all students; give clear guidelines for expected actions; avoid negative language about a child's ability or generalizations about their behavior Respond to students with openness and kindness while holding them accountable for behavior and academic development Encourage a love of learning and a collaborative, supportive classroom environment Bring creativity while still supporting existing MOS structures, policies, and methodologies Assess student progress and adjust instructional strategies to meet individual needs and learning styles Maintain alertness and attentiveness throughout all assigned coverage duties (lunch, recess, or other shifts) Assist with other tasks that support the school's efficient operation and positive environment (cleaning, organizing, beautifying, etc.) Attend PD sessions as needed and staff meetings twice monthly Meet regularly with the lead teacher for joint planning, support, and feedback

WHAT YOU'LL DO — ASSOCIATE TEACHER DUTIES

Lead one elementary math group of approximately 4 students, 5 days per week Create and follow a year-long scope and sequence aligned with the Math in Focus curriculum Design and implement lessons using the abstract–pictorial–concrete methodology Administer formative and summative assessments; track student progress and adapt instruction accordingly Plan lessons under the lead teacher's guidance and keep them informed of student progress Lead small reading groups as directed by the lead teacher (2–3 days per week) — supporting fluency, comprehension, and guided response to text Guide students through producing creative projects With the lead teacher's support, lead mini-lessons on skills such as grammar, literary devices, writing, or social studies Assist with classroom setup, materials preparation, brainstorming, and lesson planning as time permits Provide coverage for the full class (approximately 12 students) as needed

WHAT YOU'LL DO — SCIENCE TEACHER DUTIES

Develop and deliver engaging science lessons aligned with NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards) for both the Activists (2nd–3rd grade) and Organizers (4th–7th grade) cohorts Use MOS's scope and sequence to design age-appropriate lessons supporting scientific inquiry across both cohorts Incorporate hands-on activities, experiments, and projects to build a genuine love of science Collaborate with other educators to integrate science across the curriculum and support interdisciplinary learning Track student observations and progress using MOS's provided template Communicate regular—ly with parents/guardians on student progress, achievements, and areas for growth in science Support the wider school day alongside teaching, including recess duty and other shared tasks, as a present, contributing member of our small staff

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Comfort moving between small-group instructional support and full classroom science teaching Genuine interest in both foundational math/literacy support and hands-on science inquiry Flexibility — this role asks someone to hold a varied schedule and multiple instructional roles at once Alignment with MOS's anti-racist, restorative approach to education Comfort with ambiguity, and a collaborative spirit in a small-staff environment

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience teaching or supporting elementary-age students Familiarity with Math in Focus or similar abstract–pictorial–concrete math methodology a plus Background or strong working knowledge of NGSS-aligned science instruction Experience with progressive or child-centered classroom approaches a plus, not required
