About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hours Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS Must-Have: - Minimum 2 years of MedSurg experience - Proficient with central lines, NG tube management, ostomies, drain management, and professional communication - Experience with CBIs and foley management preferred Description: This position is for a Medical Surgical unit. The unit has a bed capacity of 35. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-5 based on acuity. An acuity tool is utilized to balance assignments effectively. Common diagnoses include various specialties such as bariatric surgery, urology, colorectal, vascular, and gynecological surgery. Additional specialty surgeries also include Whipple and pectus surgeries. The nurses will share medical patients as the facility does not have a specific medical unit. Charge nurses are present on each shift without patient assignments. Leadership support is available with assistant nurse managers and managers covering day and night shifts. Travelers may be assigned charge responsibilities depending on experience. Certified nursing assistants are present at a ratio of 1:8-10. Remote tele monitoring is available, and RNs are required to read strips. Scheduled shifts are 12 hours from 7 PM to 7 AM, with work-life balance considered in scheduling. Weekend requirements are typically every other weekend, with potential for more frequent needs. Although there are no standby requirements, flexibility in floating to similar units may be necessary. Scrubs must be clean and professional without specific color requirements. Floating to similar units is expected, with travelers being the first to float. The unit may require additional staffing during peak times and is supportive of both clinical and educational needs.
