Job Overview Nationwide’s Property and Casualty team seeks a Field Claims Specialist III, Property to support the Field Property Claims Team. The role requires high flexibility with up to 80% travel, deployment to various regions, and a strong focus on maintaining operational continuity, service quality, and team performance. Ideal candidates are located in Columbus, Ohio and surrounding areas and must be ready to adapt quickly to new environments and team dynamics. The position includes CAT duty and involves extended on‑call and travel requirements. Key Responsibilities Handle all assigned claims promptly and effectively, including complex and catastrophic losses, with minimal direction. Make decisions within delegated authority, recommend settlement values, and determine proper policy coverages. Open, close, and adjust reserves to ensure adequacy; adhere to file conference notification and authority procedures. Maintain current knowledge of assigned insurance lines, court decisions, guidelines, and policy changes. Act for the Claims Manager and provide leadership, mentoring, and one‑on‑one training to less experienced associates. Partner with Special Investigation Unit and Subrogation to identify fraud and subrogation opportunities. Assist or prepare files for suit, trial, or subrogation; conduct follow‑ups using claims and related business systems. Deliver outstanding customer service to internal, external, and prospective Nationwide customers. Perform additional responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Five years of insurance field/property claims handling or adjusting experience. Solid experience with Xactimate; ability to write own estimates and handle claims from start to finish. Strong customer service competency and communication skills (verbal and written). Education: Undergraduate studies in business administration or related field preferred, or validated experience. License/certification: Completion of required claims certification schools or courses; IIA or CPCU preferred; state licensing where required. Xactimate certification: Level 1 within one year of start; Level 2 within two years. Physical ability to safely access and inspect rooftops using a ladder, including first and second stories with pitches up to 8/12. Benefits Medical, dental, vision. Salary Range The national salary range for the Field Claims Specialist III, Property is $79,500.00 – $148,500.00, with an expected starting range of $79,500.00 – $119,500.00. Job Conditions Not eligible for overtime (Exempt). Regular office or field claims environment, with potential for extended, non‑standard hours. Requires ability to sit, operate phone and computer, and conduct physical inspections of property loss sites. Must have a valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.
