Job Title: Medical Assistant Job Description
This Medical Assistant position supports a busy family medicine and women's health clinic connected to a hospital, providing direct patient care and administrative support to ensure efficient, high-quality service. You will work closely with providers and another Medical Assistant to room patients, collect vital signs and histories, perform point-of-care tests, and manage scheduling and documentation in the electronic medical record. This role offers a Monday–Friday daytime schedule with no weekends or holidays, a friendly and team-oriented culture, and clear opportunities for career growth within a supportive healthcare network.
Responsibilities- Room patients efficiently and prepare exam rooms for providers, ensuring a smooth and timely flow of patients through the clinic.
- Obtain and document vital signs such as blood pressure, weight, temperature, and other relevant measurements, and record signs, symptoms, and medical history in the electronic medical record.
- Assist providers during patient exams by setting up necessary equipment, preparing patients, and supporting various clinical procedures as directed.
- Perform point-of-care testing including urinalysis, strep tests, flu tests, pregnancy tests, and other tests as directed by providers and based on the specialty practice.
- Collect and document patient information such as height, weight, body mass index (BMI), immunization history, and other pertinent clinical details, and update immunization records accurately.
- Schedule diagnostic tests, radiology exams, and specialist appointments as requested by providers, and enter all relevant check-in and check-out information into the electronic medical record.
- Complete prior authorizations as needed and notify the office referral specialist when an insurance referral is required.
- Handle phone triage during scheduled times, including responding to patient medical questions, communicating test results, processing medication refill requests, and making follow-up calls to patients as needed.
- Fax, call, or transmit prescription refills as directed by providers, ensuring accuracy and adherence to clinic protocols.
- Support walk-in patient care by performing triage, obtaining blood pressures, conducting urinalyses, coordinating medication sample requests, and collecting patient histories and other information for provider review.
- Function as a helpful resource to visitors, providers, and staff by greeting everyone promptly and courteously and communicating clearly and professionally.
- Consistently support and promote the mission and values of the organization in all patient and staff interactions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by clinic leadership and providers to support overall clinic operations and patient care.
- Conduct all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards, as well as organizational policies and procedures, including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.
- Contribute to a positive team environment by maintaining an upbeat, cooperative attitude and stepping in where needed to maintain consistent patient flow and a positive patient experience.
- Active certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA AAMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA).
- Successful completion and graduation from a recognized medical assistant training program or equivalent experience.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Hands-on experience with medical assisting duties such as rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, and providing direct patient care.
- Ability to accurately document patient information, signs, symptoms, and medical history in an electronic medical record (EMR) or electronic health record system.
- Competence in performing basic clinical tasks including point-of-care testing, urinalysis, and other routine tests as directed.
- Basic phlebotomy skills, including blood draws and use of a centrifuge, as relevant to clinic needs.
- Strong patient care skills with the ability to interact professionally and compassionately with patients across family medicine, women's health, pediatrics, and internal medicine settings.
- Capability to manage appointment scheduling and data entry with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain according to clinic requirements.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and perform clinical tasks throughout the day.
- Upbeat, positive, and outgoing attitude with a willingness to step in and assist wherever needed to support patient flow and team operations.
- 2–3 years of experience working as a Certified Medical Assistant is preferred.
- Previous experience in family practice or women's health settings is highly desirable.
- Experience with point-of-care (POC) testing in an outpatient or clinic environment.
- Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and comfort learning new healthcare technologies.
- Experience in pediatrics, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology (OBGYN), and family medicine environments is beneficial.
- Certification as a CMA, RMA, or CCMA from a recognized credentialing body.
- Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to greet and assist patients, visitors, and staff in a courteous and professional manner.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based care model alongside providers and other medical assistants.
- Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and commitment to high-quality patient care.
- Interest in long-term career growth within a healthcare network, including potential advancement into leadership or specialized roles.
This role is based in a women's health and family medicine clinic connected to a hospital, in a temperature-controlled environment designed for patient comfort and staff efficiency. You will work closely with two providers and one other Medical Assistant in a collaborative, team-based setting that sees a steady patient volume. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with no weekend or holiday shifts and minimal overtime. Daily workflow generally includes walk-in acute visits from 8:00 a.m. to 8:50 a.m., scheduled appointments from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., a one-hour lunch break, and afternoon appointments from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., with clinic wrap-up by 5:00 p.m. The clinic uses electronic medical record systems and standard clinical equipment such as vital sign monitors, phlebotomy supplies, and centrifuges. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.22 - $23.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
