Interim Accounting Manager

Interim Accounting Manager Our client, a rapidly growing nonprofit organization, is seeking an Interim Accounting Manager to help build and scale its accounting infrastructure.

This role is hybrid, with in-office attendance expected three days per week in San Francisco, CA.

This role has an initial duration of approximately three months, with potential for extension.

Responsibilities: Support day-to-day accounting activities, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, close activities, and financial reporting Review grant agreements and support accounting for restricted and unrestricted funding Gather and record payroll, procurement, corporate card, employee expense, and other operational accounting activity Investigate discrepancies and remediate historical accounting records to ensure transactions are complete and properly classified Prepare monthly financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules Support annual financial reporting, tax filings, state compliance requirements, and consolidated reporting activities Establish scalable accounting processes, internal controls, documentation, and workflows Partner with grant operations and shared-service teams to address accounting, reporting, and compliance requirements Support the evaluation and implementation of accounting, grant-management, and related financial systems Identify opportunities to use automation and emerging technology to reduce manual effort and improve accounting efficiency Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred 6+ years of progressive accounting experience at the Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, or equivalent level Strong knowledge of U.S.

GAAP, month-end close, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation Experience improving accounting processes, establishing controls, and building scalable procedures in an evolving environment Nonprofit or grant accounting experience, including exposure to restricted funding and nonprofit financial reporting, strongly preferred Experience with cloud-based ERP systems, accounting automation, or financial systems implementation initiatives Compensation: Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco by Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors, including but not limited to: The individual's skill sets, experience, and training; Licensure and certifications; Office location and other geographic considerations; Other business and organizational needs.
