Field Engineering Technician

Position Description & Qualifications Looking for an Experienced Engineer Tech to work with a team upgrading the video management system (VMS) at DoD facilities worldwide. This role allows you to live anywhere in the United States and involves up to 90% travel worldwide, up to four months at a time, with travel expenses covered and per diem. Serco supports the US IMCOM Army Child & Youth Services (CYS) Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) by upgrading, maintaining, and providing support to Functional Technology Specialists (FTS), building directors, and staff on site. You will work closely with a Mid‑Level Engineer, Project Lead, and Project Engineer to set up and configure the VMS, and analyze and resolve technical issues related to the system. In this role, you will: Support server hardware and software setup/installation and configuration of the VMS on site, following documented standards and prescribed sequences. Conduct testing on the VMS. Follow specific instructions, assemble or construct standard equipment or parts, and service or repair simple instruments or equipment. Ensure cable management and terminate Cat 6 using the T568B color code standard. Check electrical connections are properly connected, fixed, and secured. Analyze and resolve technical issues related to VMS end‑points. Conduct close‑out procedures, including service validation, test plan execution, system acceptance with the customer, and take photos of completed work. Provide on‑site training to the customer on the VMS. Act as the primary liaison for customers while at the garrison, ensuring exceptional customer satisfaction. Ensure the project stays on schedule. Conduct administrative duties such as daily status reporting to the project lead, timekeeping, and expense reporting according to policies and procedures. Lead and direct the work of others, mentoring and teaching skills to mid‑level technicians. Follow documented standard procedures to set up, install, and configure the VMS to establish best practices. Gather and maintain engineering data records such as tests and drawings, verifying that test data meets acceptance criteria. Act as the primary liaison with the customer on‑site, ensuring exceptional customer satisfaction and service delivery. Have strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with technicians, team members, the customer, project lead, project engineer, and leadership. Adhere to safety standards and always follow OSHA and safety rules. Other duties as assigned. To be successful in this role, you will have: The ability to travel up to 90% of the time, both CONUS and OCONUS, up to four months at a time. The ability to obtain a passport within 60 days of hiring. The ability to receive a favorable determination from the National Agency Check (NACI). U.S. citizenship required. The ability to obtain access to all military installations and a Common Access Card (CAC). A valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Or a high school diploma/GED with a minimum eight years of experience in lieu of a degree. Minimum four years of experience in each of the following areas: Technical and leadership experience. Experience with VMS and/or server equipment. Installing rack equipment, cable conveyance, and peripheral equipment. Troubleshooting and resolving issues related to server rack equipment. Reading technical drawings. Collaborating with the engineering team to provide solutions to technical problems. Conducting, testing, calibrating, and troubleshooting video management systems. Providing training to customers, mentoring junior technicians, and giving day‑to‑day directions to the team on site. Strong troubleshooting skills with hardware and software video management systems and network devices. Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and a cable tester. Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook). Performing basic administrative tasks (daily status report, close‑out documents, timekeeping, expense reporting) promptly. Work more than 40 hours per week if needed. Work after normal duty hours depending on customer requirements. Work in drafts, loud noise, temperature variation/high heat, confined spaces, climb stairs/ladders, kneeling positions for cable layout, lift up to 50 pounds independently, and move up to 40 pounds for the majority of the shift while standing, crouching, or walking. Work during inclement weather or other adverse conditions. Additional Desired Experience and Skills Experience with Genetec software and its modules. Experience pulling, dressing, and terminating cable using the T568B standard (preferred but not required). A current OSHA certification. A current BISCI certification. A current U.S. passport.
