Registration Specialist - Cancer Services - Casual - Days

Job Summary Position: Patient Registration / Financial Services Clerk (Casual) Location: Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital, 933 E. Pierce St., Council Bluffs, IA Schedule: Casual, “as needed” basis. Typical schedule Monday‑Friday 7:30AM‑4PM; shifts may vary week to week. Responsibilities Accurately register and dismiss patients in a courteous and timely manner. Register patients in the electronic registration system and review all registration forms prior to obtaining signatures. Perform bedside visits, scan identification documents, and complete point‑of‑service collections as needed. Verify and enter insurance/payer information, scan documents, and ensure eligibility according to guidelines. Complete Medicare Secondary Payer questionnaire and other payer‑specific documents (e.g., ABN). Advise patients of copayment requirements, collect and post payments, and perform reconciliation procedures. Safeguard cash and receipts, notify supervisor of discrepancies, and refer patients to financial counselors as appropriate. Document all attempts for collections and reasons for failed attempts. Perform order entry functions for lab patients registered in Admitting, as required. Adhere to safety and infection control guidelines and report unsafe conditions. Execute tasks and responsibilities for each shift to maintain a productive department. Communicate tasks, incomplete work, problems, and issues to the supervisor promptly. Display adaptability to meet staffing needs; work additional shifts and accept additional tasks or assignments. Maintain teamwork spirit, mentor, and assist with training or cross‑training of new employees. Show respect for patients and coworkers and maintain confidentiality standards. Perform periodic, situational, and other duties as required; operate and assist in maintenance of office equipment. Provide age‑specific care to ensure patient understanding and comfort. Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Medical terminology preferred. Experience: Prior health care registration, customer service, insurance, or billing experience required. License/Certification: Ability to provide transportation to other campus locations within a reasonable timeframe. Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: Phone etiquette and basic medical terminology. Strong computer skills: Outlook, Word, Excel, scanner, and copier. Basic mathematics for collections (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). Ability to work independently and multitask with strong attention to detail. Kind, courteous, helpful interaction with patients and coworkers. Ability to transport/escort patients and guests via stairs, elevators, or ramps. Communication through a glass barrier. Physical Requirements Weight Demands: Medium (exerting up to 50lb). Physical Activity: Occasionally (1‑33%) – balancing, carrying, crouching, etc.; frequently (34‑66%) – keyboarding, sitting, speaking; constantly (67‑100%) – hearing, seeing.
