We are currently seeking Critical Care Technicians to join our team! General Overview Our Critical Care Technicians are responsible for the care and treatment of unstable/critically ill patients, triaging emergency patients, and monitoring hospitalized pets. They operate under the supervision of various specialists, the staff manager, emergency doctor, and department shift supervisor. Location Boulder, CO Compensation Registered Veterinary Technicians $25 - $34 based on experience and skills assessment Veterinary Technician Specialists $35 - $40 based on experience and skills assessment Anticipated Schedule Full Time Tuesday - Friday 8am-6pm Duties & Responsibilities Conduct advanced triage of incoming phone calls by assessing clinical urgency, utilizing established protocols, and reviewing relevant medical records to support timely and accurate prioritization of patient care. Demonstrate proficiency in advanced veterinary medical math, including accurate calculation of drug dosages, fluid rates, constant rate infusions (CRIs), and nutritional requirements for catecholamines, inotropes, and anti‑coagulants. Acquire, prepare, and ship laboratory specimens, run automated CBCs, prepare blood films for manual differentials and platelet counts, run various chemistries and coagulation tests, and collect, evaluate, and report urinalysis results. Provide general nursing care: accurately obtain and assess patient vitals (temperature, pulse/heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, pain score, etc.), auscultate the lungs, and prepare and administer nutrition. Perform general venipuncture, peripheral/central/arterial catheter placement and maintenance. Establish and maintain airways (ET tube, tracheostomy, etc.). Administer oxygen via cages, nasal O₂, and high‑flow nasal oxygen. Initiate and monitor mechanical ventilation. Administer emergency drugs and CRIs under veterinary supervision. Administer blood product therapy (whole blood, plasma, albumin). Provide fluid therapy, including shock dose calculations and continuous monitoring. Induce and monitor anesthesia using advanced parameters. Prepare for and assist with surgical procedures (e.g., thoracocentesis, chest tube placement). Post‑operative recovery: monitor pain, vitals, and complications. Wound management and bandage placement (Robert Jones, splints, wet‑to‑dry dressings). Prepare and administer chemotherapy under PPE and biohazard safety protocols. Assist with induction, surgical skin preparation, monitoring and recovery of surgical patients for minor procedures such as chest tube placement and peritoneal drain. Admit and discharge patients, communicate and educate clients, answer phone calls, and schedule appointments. Keep ICU/Isolation equipment and supplies cleaned, stocked, and organized. Qualifications Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), or Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) with at least 2 years of applicable experience. Knowledge of basic veterinary practices, procedures, and terminology. Ability to appropriately handle, lift and restrain animals (dogs, cats) and stand for long periods. Demonstrate safe venipuncture with aseptic technique and ability to place peripheral IV catheters. Strong communication skills with CASE staff. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Fluent English (speaking & reading); fluency in multiple languages is a plus. Ability to multi‑task and produce quality work while making effective decisions. Why Join Us?
