Supervising Public Works Project Manager

The Department of Public Works (DPW) is recruiting for a Supervising Public Works Project Manager responsible for managing public works programs and projects, including civil engineering projects such as design, construction, operations, flood control, solid waste management, transportation, land development, construction, and surveying. Key responsibilities include: Development and construction of public works projects, including improvement plans and specifications. Contract development and management. Inspections. Map preparation. Development of engineering studies. Support for related engineering functions. Assigning and evaluating work. Assisting in budget preparation and recommending expenditures. Conditions of Employment Travel: Travel to various sites throughout the County is required; a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be provided at time of hire. Mileage reimbursement is available. Physical: This position requires frequent sitting; occasional walking, standing, bending, and squatting; fine manipulation in both hands; continuous reach or work below shoulder level; needs near and far vision; occasionally lifts or carries ten (10) pounds or less; occasional work near equipment on rough, uneven, rocky, or slippery surfaces; occasional exposure to dust, gas, toxic materials, noise, extremes in temperature and/or humidity; occasional use of protective equipment. Minimum Requirements Option 1: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business/Public Administration, or a closely related field. Experience: Five years performing engineering duties related to project management, including design, procurement, and construction of public works projects, or professional level business administration in a Public Works related field. Substitutions for Experience (Option 1 only): Master’s degree in a related field for two years of experience. Project or Program Management Professional certification for one year of experience. Professional Engineer (PE) license or Licensed Land Surveyor (PLS) license for four years of experience. Option 2: Experience: Eight years progressing responsibility in project management, including design, procurement, and construction of public works projects or related project management fields. Substitutions for Experience (Option 2 only): 30 semester (45 quarter) units of upper-division education in a related field for one year of experience. Project or Program Management Professional certification for one year of experience. Engineer in Training (EIT) or Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT) for one year of experience or Professional Engineer (PE) license or Licensed Land Surveyor (PLS) license for four years of experience. Candidates must provide a list of completed coursework unless the candidate possesses a Bachelor’s degree in a qualifying area. Degrees or coursework must be completed at an accredited college or university. Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied by an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service.
