Afterschool Driver

As a LaAmistad Driver, you'll play a vital role in supporting our community, ensuring students arrive on time, safely, and ready to learn. The driver is responsible for operating vans and/or small buses and transporting up to 14 students safely to LaAmistad Afterschool and/or home from Afterschool. In this position, using a checklist, you will be expected to ensure a clean and mechanically sound vehicle, follow traffic rules and regulations, and provide excellent customer service to our students and families. This position is part time.

Reports to: Operations Assistant

Hours May Vary:

Mon-Thu 1:30-6:00 pm

Roughly 20 hours per week

Additional hours may be available to cover field trips or substitute driving when needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operate a vehicle safely and efficiently to transport passengers to various destinations
• Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations while driving
• Inspect the vehicle before and after each trip to ensure it is in good working condition
• Manage student behavior and report any misconduct
• Maintain a clean and orderly vehicle interior
• Communicate with the afterschool manager regarding routes and schedules
• Report any accidents, incidents, or mechanical problems to the appropriate authorities immediately
• Attend training sessions and meetings as required

Requirements and Qualifications:

• Must be 25 or older
• Clean driving record
• Valid driver's license
• Ability to pass background, drug and alcohol tests
• Excellent driving skills and knowledge of traffic laws and regulations
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Good physical health and ability to lift heavy objects
• Ability to remain calm and focused in stressful situations
• Good problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Work with the Operations Team to perform other relevant duties as assigned

Recommended:

• Work with staff and volunteers to tutor and mentor students between drop offs

Preferred but not required:

• Fluent in Spanish
• Knowledge/experience working with the LatinX community
