Assists eye care providers in the care of patients and flow of clinical activities. Ensures proper care and usage of medical instruments. Responsibilities :
- Under the direct supervision of the eye care provider, assists with performing patient care and demonstrates proficiency in ophthalmic core competencies, while also supporting onboarding by teaching and modeling advanced techniques within established areas of proficiency.
- Performs clinical assignments and additional duties from the clinical supervisor, including reviewing clinical schedules for assignments and coverage and reporting discrepancies to the clinical coordinator and/or supervisor, and contributes to onboarding by guiding new staff through these workflow responsibilities.
- Assists with minor procedures and prescription refill process under provider direction, serves as a staff resource and mentor, and instructs or coordinates courses for students, staff, and residents, incorporating advanced ophthalmic skill development as appropriate.
- Performs documentation, patient education, and charge entry, assists with patient flow, and supports onboarding by demonstrating specialty specific workflows and advanced ophthalmic techniques as directed by clinic leadership.
- Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.

National Contact Lens Examiner Certification
Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist - Other information: Minimum Required Education: High School diploma or GED. Required Licensure/Certification: Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) or National Contact Lens Examiner Certification (NCLEC) if performing as a contact lens technician. Minimum Experience: 3 years sponsored on the job ophthalmic training, or ophthalmic internship.
- BLS through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer with card in-hand before start date. BLS or CPR card must be good through sixty days of hire.
