Estimator - Commercial & Industrial Building Construction - DIRECT HIRE/PERMANENT!

Manpower Engineering is exclusively partnering with a very reputable, established and growing construction company/general contractor in McFarland, WI on a highly visible and direct hire/permanent Estimator – Commercial & Industrial Building Construction position that’s available due to continued growth and has strong development and advancement opportunities.

• Compensation Plan: Depending on qualifications/experience, this opportunity can offer up to a base salary of $150,000 plus bonus.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Estimator – Commercial & Industrial Building Construction is responsible for preparing accurate, complete, and competitive project cost estimates for commercial construction projects. This position supports preconstruction by analyzing drawings and specifications, coordinating subcontractor pricing, identifying risks and opportunities, and ensuring pricing reflects scope, market conditions, and company strategy.

This role plays a critical role in bid quality, margin protection, and smooth project handoff to operations.

Responsibilities:

Quantity Takeoffs & Pricing:

• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs based on drawings and specifications.

• Develop labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor cost estimates.

• Apply historical cost data and market intelligence to pricing decisions.

• Ensure estimates align with project scope, schedule, and delivery method.

• Develop conceptual budgets based on a floor plan of client idea.

Subcontractor & Vendor Pricing:

• Develop bid lists and solicit competitive subcontractor pricing.

• Level and analyze subcontractor bids for scope completeness and risk.

• Identify exclusions, clarifications, and scope gaps.

• Support subcontractor selection and buyout recommendations.

• Understand and work with subcontractors on any VE ideas.

Scope Review & Risk Identification:

• Thoroughly review drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.

• Identify constructability issues, scope gaps, and cost risks.

• Develop assumptions, clarifications, and contingency recommendations.

• Support value engineering and alternative analysis.

• Put SOW in a presentable review format, so others can review with clients.

Estimate Review & Proposal Support:

• Participate in internal estimate reviews and pricing strategy discussions.

• Prepare estimate narratives, scope summaries, and bid forms.

• Support proposal development and interview preparation.

• Ensure estimates are reviewed, validated, and approved prior to submission.

Preconstruction Handoff & Support:

• Prepare clear estimate handoff packages for Project Managers.

• Support project startup and budget validation.

• Assist with post-bid reviews and lessons learned.

• Maintain estimating databases and cost history.

• Prepare project schedule, to help support GC Cost / budget / Explain to PM team the thought process.

Continuous Improvement:

• Track estimate accuracy and post-project performance.

• Update unit costs and assemblies based on actual results.

• Improve estimating tools, templates, and processes.

Qualifications:

• Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree is a plus.

• Estimating experience in the construction industry. Experience with estimating commercial and/or industrial building construction is a plus.

• Experience with estimating software and Microsoft Excel. Experience with Bluebeam is a plus.

• Experience with construction means, methods, and materials is a plus.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications is a plus.

• Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.

• Strong communication, organization, and time management abilities.

• Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
