Job Summary

Operation and maintenance of water plant and distribution system.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Measure, record, monitor, and maintain operating equipment and daily operations and information on water distribution system and treatment plant performance and operation.

2. Operate water sampling programs and testing to meet CDPHE requirements for Total Coliform, Lead and Copper, DBPs and all other required water testing.

3. Assists in the implementation of the Cross-Connection Control Program including yearly surveys, and backflow testing results for all Town, commercial, industrial, and multi-family buildings according to CDPHE and Town requirements.

4. Operate monthly meter reading equipment and software and replace meters as necessary.

5. Perform hydrant flushing, repair, replacement, snow clearing and flow testing as required.

6. Locate and mark water and sewer infrastructure as required.

7. Operate leak detection equipment as required on water mains and services.

8. Repair water mains using all equipment necessary and directing other crew members in proper and safe operation of repair equipment.

9. Operation of a variety of heavy equipment including backhoe, loader, dump truck, and skid steer for water and sewer system repair and maintenance and snow removal.

10. Responds to questions and concerns from the public related to all above responsibilities and water system function.

11. Assists other Public Works responsibilities as assigned.

12. Maintains a variety of records; makes periodic and special reports of work performed.

13. Ensures that safe work practices and procedures are followed and that appropriate safety equipment is utilized.

14. Once trained, employees will be entered into a rotating on call schedule, and on-the-call duties require evening and weekend duties. Employees are required to be able to respond 24/7 to emergencies within 1 hour for the on-call period.

Required Knowledge & Skills

Knowledge of:

· Principles and practices of water and distribution system operations and maintenance.

· Use of hand and power tools and equipment.

· Principles and practices of electrical, mechanical and plumbing system installation, maintenance and repair.

· Safety practices and procedures; basic first aid.

· Proper handling and storage of chlorine and other hazardous chemicals.

· Standard office administrative practices and procedures, including record keeping systems and the operation of office equipment, computers, and associated software.

Skill in:

· Operation and maintenance on water plant and distribution system equipment.

· Recognizing unusual, inefficient or dangerous operating conditions and taking appropriate action.

· Operating computerized and mechanical equipment to control plant processes.

· Accurately reading and recording data from gauges and meters.

· Making accurate arithmetic calculations.

· Maintaining accurate and legible logs and records of work performed.

· Ensuring safe and proper use of facilities, chemicals, vehicles and equipment.

· Reading and interpreting plans, diagrams and specifications.

· Using initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.

· Establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with staff, coworkers, contractors and the public.

Minimum Job Requirements

Equivalent to high school diploma and one (1) year of experience in operating and maintaining mechanical equipment.

Must possess a valid Colorado Class D Water Plant Operation and Class 1 Distribution System licenses or obtain them within one (1) year of date of employment.

Employment is contingent upon the results of Background Investigation and Criminal History Record check.

FICA (Social Security) 7.65% Retirement (CCOERA): This is a mandatory program beginning the first payroll of employment.

401(a): The Town offers a deferred compensation plan on a voluntary basis. The Town does not match any dollars in this plan. You have the choice between a regular 457 and a Roth 457.

The town pays 100% of employee & dependent premium.

Town offers a $900 Health Reimbursement Account that may be used for deductible above the first $600 (1 per employee)

Life Insurance: 1x employee salary policy (Town pays 100% of premium)

Long-term Disability Insurance: (60% of salary after 120 days) (Town pays 100% of premium)

This provides payments to you (up to 60% of your salary) in case of a long-term disability (non-job related) which prevents you from working at your job.

Vacation: 96 hours 1st year, 120 hours years 2nd through 5th, 168 hours after 5th through 9th, 192 hours after completing 9 years of employment. 240 max accrual first year through 5th year of employment, 280 max accrual after completing 5 years of service.

Sick Leave: Accrues at 1 day (8 hours) per month up to a maximum of 960 hours. No payment for unused sick leave upon termination.

Paid Holidays: 13 per year (New Year's Day/Martin Luther King Day/President's Day/Memorial Day/Juneteenth/Independence Day/Colorado Day/Labor Day/Indigenous Peoples Day/Thanksgiving/Friday after Thanksgiving/Christmas Day/Floating day at Christmas).

Compensatory Time Off (Comp Time): In lieu of overtime pay, the Town allows non-exempt employees to accumulate Comp Time to be taken at a later date. Comp time is accrued at the rate of 1 ½ times for each hour of overtime worked. A maximum of 80 hours of Comp Time may be accumulated, after which the overtime worked will be paid out at overtime rates.

Volunteer Time Off: Employees may take up to 8 hours of paid time off each payroll year to participate in a volunteer program for a local government 501(c)(3) non-profit of their choice.
