The **Machine Shop Assistant **will support daily operations within our machine shop, working alongside experienced machinists to assist with setups, tooling preparation, and part handling. This hands-on role requires attention to detail, a willingness to learn, and a safety-first mindset while working around large parts and heavy equipment.Responsibilities:Assist machinists with the setup of very large workpieces for machining operationsSupport CNC machining processes by gathering and managing tooling and providing assistance during part setupsManage tooling inventory and prepare tooling for upcoming machining operationsRig and safely move large parts using overhead cranes and rigging equipment throughout the shopHone bore diameters to specification using shop equipmentPerform basic machining operations, including: Reaming holes, Tapping and chasing threads by hand, and grinding and deburring parts after machiningOperate various shop equipment and toolsUse precision measuring tools such as ID/OD micrometers and dial indicatorsRead and interpret machining drawings, understanding tolerances and dimensionsDump chip hoppers and maintain a clean, organized work areaQualifications:1-2 years of experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environmentWilling to submit to drug and background screeningBasic familiarity with machine shop tooling, equipment, and terminologyComfortable working around large parts, overhead cranes, and heavy machineryAbility to read and interpret basic machining drawingsExperience with deburring, tapping, and using hand tools in a shop settingWillingness to learn and safely operate shop machinery (training provided)Preferred:Prior rigging experienceFamiliarity with precision measuring tools (micrometers, indicators)Previous experience assisting with large part machining or CNC setupsExpress Employment Professionals is one of the top staffing companies in the U.S. and Canada.
