Learn more about Louisiana Works OUIA oversees Louisiana’s Unemployment Insurance (UI) program, which provides temporary financial assistance to eligible workers who are unemployed through no fault of their own. The office manages the full UI lifecycle, including employer tax collection, benefit claims processing, fraud prevention, and appeals. The ORS Specialist 1/2/3/4 coordinates the docketing and scheduling of appeals within the Appeals Tribunal Clerk of Court's office. The position ensures compliance with U.S. Department of Labor guidelines, Louisiana Employment Security Law, and applicable federal laws governing Disaster Unemployment Assistance, Trade Adjustment Assistance, and Title 5, Chapter 85 of the U.S. Code. Duties require the exercise of independent judgment and action in support of the agency's administrative hearings program. Three years of experience in unemployment insurance, workforce development programs, workers’ compensation, administrative services, or social services; OR Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR A bachelor’s degree. EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field. Job Details: Coordinate the docketing, scheduling, and processing of unemployment insurance appeals in accordance with state and federal laws, regulations, and agency procedures. Review, analyze, and prepare appeal cases by determining timeliness, identifying issues for hearing, verifying case information, and issuing hearing notices. Compile, organize, and maintain complete case files by researching claim records, reviewing supporting documentation, and obtaining missing information needed for hearings. Prepare and manage records for Attorneys/Administrative Law Judges, the Board of Review, and judicial courts, including coordinating remands, transcript requests, and court-related documentation. Serve as a resource on appeal case records and procedures, exercise independent judgment in case processing, and perform other duties assigned by management to support the appeals program.
